I have been trying to get my number, that I've had for over 50 years, PORTed over from VZW to ATT since Dec 7.  I have gotten 6 different transfer pins from VZW, given them to ATT and the next day get a call from T saying that I need a new pin because VZW won't take it. 3 times I have been on the phone for over an hour on conference calls between VZW and ATT PORT dept, making sure that the transfer pin has been generated and everything has done correctly, and it is ready to go, to be activated.  Next day, I get a call and email from ATT stating that they are unable to process my order without additional info.  Back on the phone with ATT to find out that I need the correct transfer pin, which I got the day before, and was assured by both VZW and ATT that it would work. This has gone on for 10 times. Assurances from both companies.  But no. Get another call from ATT.   

What do I have to do? I have done everything that has been requested, and have been assured of that on conference calls between VZW and ATT that the number will be PORTed over to ATT.  But is it hasn't been done yet.

Put everything you just stated in an FCC complaint. If this is a Verizon landline you may not be able to port it. As long as AT&T tells you the number can be ported than there shouldn't be the issue you're having.
