Outdated LandLine

the landline leading to our house is outdated, so we do not get WiFi fast enough to do any normal activities like social media or watch netflix. We need AT&T to update the lines in our neighborhood, especially with school closures due to covid, my children need internet for their online schooling.

The landline being old has nothing to do with the speed of the service, you may be in an area where you only get low speed DSL, plus it has nothing to do with WiFI that's the modem.  Use this link to see what's available in your area.

Assuming your are referring to DSL (internet over POTS) there is a finite speed you can reliably get given your distance from the CO. What is your download speed? A better router may help a bit.

When using the link provided by spoom2, it says “high speed internet isn’t available in our area”. We are about two miles away from the high speed lines living in an area of about 50 or so homes. Invest in the infrastructure please!!!  It’s unimaginable that in 2020 we don’t have access!

Hello, @Clisa655

We understand being frustrated when you are so close to the lines but are told you are not eligible for service.

We want to make sure we can provide quality service and we are distant-dependent.  If you are just outside the area, we would not be able to get you connected.

Thank you so much for your interest in AT&T Internet Service. We are hopeful to be servicing your area soon.

We are in AT&T’s service area. We had your landlines for years. My issue is the lack of investment of high speed lines in rural areas. I now have a child who has to use internet for school as well as a work from home person. It’s disappointing and unacceptable that AT&T is not proactive in  upgrading. I’m hoping for government involvement. Sad that companies don’t want to do the right thing, only do it when forced to.

Hey @Clisa655,

We are here to help with your inquiry. Inside the link that Meaghan provided, under the "Looking for Fiber for your Neighborhood or Building?" you can request Fiber to be brought to your location. Also under the ""Gigabit Speeds, When Is It Coming?" you can request a research of your address to see if we can make an exception.

If there is no Internet available in your area. You can look into our Fixed Wireless service.

Let us know if this helps.
