Why does technology only make it easier for the scammer?
How can we stop these calls (landline) ?
Seems like the louder we praise and marvel at our own technology, hackers & scammers benefit all the more.
VoIP makes an overseas call appear local, CID can be spoofed to show as a local call, if memory serves, I once got a call from my own number.
How can you block a number that will, more than likely, never be used again by the same caller.
Cussed, Insulted, lied to, threatened "I can call you anytime I want, you can do nothing about it" (sadly, which I know is absolutely true).
Listen to the ringing, unplug the phone or just keep screening/deleting endless recordings during play back?
Call blocking features charged every month only to discover, "Long-distance numbers and numbers outside the calling area can’t be screened"~At&t features page...What? Really? I am not talking about my neighbor down the street?
Anonymous call rejection, option? Caller gets a friendly reminder to turn "their" CID back on, call again and it will be put right through. Thanks...
Why, by now, can we not have a database scan for known, bulk blocks, reported or personally submitted suspicious numbers? If there is a match, my phone rings short or long (anyone remember from childhood, your party line ring code?) at which time I can choose to answer or not.
Currently answering bogus or faked calls only confirms mine as an active/working number, so if nothing else, can now be sold to the next highest bidding scammer to add to these calls.
Will probably come off as a rant, but, I really want to know what, if anything, can be done.
Thank you

Good evening @rfwest,
You can add your number to the free National Do Not Call Registry by calling 1-888-382-1222. For more information on protecting your privacy take a look at this Stop Unwanted Calls support article.
