u-verse caller id number has an extra (1) in front of the (1) that precedes the area code

SO, no way can you call the number back since it has that extra 1 in front and not the entire number because of it.

Forget about adding the number (even if you knew the last digit) to your directory since you CANNOT edit the front of a phone number - just have to rekey the entire number.

I have a Sony spp-a2480 base phone and handset (they still sell them by the way).

I took my phone to the next door neighbor who has a regular at&t pnone line (copper all the way - CATW 😉 and called his number using my cell phone AND it displayed correctly.

Why does this happen with AT&T - are they trying to sell their own Phone?

@SactoStan99 - I guess perspective is everything -

I do agree that att is adding an exra one. But, it appears your phone is also adding the extra one - at the beginning - It just distorts the rest of the number m& leeaves off the last digit.

My theory  is that you had the phone set to add the extra one because your service was working the same as your nieghbor. when the new service already has the extra one, you can discontinue adding on the telephone.

The page 76  work would would not be a solution only if it is NOT adding a one already. If it is adding a one the step is no longer needed & easily removed.

The funny thing is Time Warner only charges $10 a month when bundled for nationwide phone. But, when they update the system at night, it makes the alarm system keypads beep until the fix it

Wonderful, TWC comes through again.  Basic Talk is $9.99/mo+taxes/fees, I pay $12.37/mo. 😉

Well, that $12 is better than my $81.97 AT&T landline bill.

They are trying to price users out of POTS so they don't have to shut as many off starting next year.  Got rid of my POTS when it got to $35 + pay for LD, good riddance. Smiley LOL

Mine's not there yet, but it's closing on it.

So I solved this on my model 974 by changing the Home AC, under Area Codes (page 6 and 38) to just 1. Then I added the local area code under Local AC1. This instantly solved the Caller ID display issue for me.
