port number out of uverse when account is inactive

I need to port the landline phone number that I had brought into uverse out to a different provider. I have canceled my uverse account and the phone number was not ported out to the new provider before the uverse account was canceled. Can anything be done so that I can retain the same number?

Didn't new provider tell you not to cancel current service before being ported to them?  Your 'old' # was put in the pool to be re-distributed to any user at ATT.  Contact your new provider to see what they can do. 😉
