Harassing phone calls from "CHARITY PICKUP"

I am reporting a harassing caller.  The Caller Id is “CHARITY PICKUP” with varying numbers.

For the last couple of months this “caller” calls twice daily, using several different telephone numbers.

Consistently,

  1. There is no one on the line when I answer. After a few seconds, I get a dial tone.
  2. When I do not answer, the “caller” does not leave a voice message.
  3. I called several of their numbers and left messages requesting the “caller” to cease calling my number. I get the SAME recorded message [paraphrased]: “You have called Charity Pickup. If you would like to donate men’s, women’s or children’s clothing or other household items please leave a message….”

I BLOCKED telephone numbers initially, but the numbers continually change.

I have checked with neighbors and several get the same calls.

I do not know if this is a legitimate charity with poor procedures that harass potential donors, or a potential burglar checking to see who is home. Regardless, this caller is abusive and needs to stop.

Sample call times and phone numbers:

2/14/19      8:26p   704-*****

2/15/19    10:48a   704-*****

2/15/19      5:27p   704-*****

2/16/19    10:35a   704-*****

2/16/19      1:09p   704-*****

2/25/19      4:58p   704-*****

2/25/19      8:58p   704-*****

2/26/19    11:39p   704-[edited for privacy-please do not post personal or unique information such as but not limited to full names, employee ID numbers, email addresses, phone numbers, account numbers, etc.]

Please reply and let me know how this will be handled.

You can't report it via the forums as we're customers just like you.  If you're on the Do Not Call list report it to them, if you're not all you can do is what you're doing. It doesn't sound legit to me.

Thanks. I am on the Do Not Call List, for years. I confirmed that.  I submitted a complaint to FCC w same info posted here. I do not expect any action.  I think those "complaints" are more for the posters ability to vent, than for the FCC to actually do anything.  It is annoying.  The calls continue.  CHARITY PICKUP is using a new exchange "704-336-xxxx". since the numbers never repeat, BLOCKING is ineffective. It appears AT&T couldn't care less either.

Don't feel alone, we've been getting the same "Charity Pickup" calls you're getting.  It would be great if we could get enough people to call all their numbers at the same time all through the day.  Just one day and maybe it would overload their system (if it's possible to overload it).

I get "Unavailable" calls a lot, but I just sing to myself, "If you're unavailable, I'm unavailable too."

@AnneNC  it has nothing to do with at&t not caring it has everything to do with there is nothing they can do about it, these calls are made from computers out of the country often using a real number to show on your screen when in fact they are not calling from a number rather than an ip address from overseas. the do not call list is only effective if the caller is concerned about prosecution or litigation  otherwise why would someone in India behind a computer screen care about a US do not call registry. this is a national epidemic with every carrier every phone company and regulations for how your calls and texts reach you  have carriers hands tied behind their backs. until some solution across the board made im afraid all you can do is hit the red button and decline the call

A couple of months ago, there was a guy on the FOX business channel's The Stuart Varney Show who has a startup company that makes a product that will stop these calls, but you have to pay about two dollars a month for the service.  Two dollars a month is worth it to me.  I'll see if I can find out the info on this and if so, I'll post it.
