called ID stopped working a week ago on my landline (didn't do anything on my end)

Greetings,

My Called ID stopped working about a week ago on my home phone (Landline).  I made no changes to my service.  What happened?

Thanks for any help/assistance.

  • When you say "land line," do you mean an old-style Analog line wired from outside the house (POTS) or service that is plugged into the back of an AT&T Gateway device (VOIP)?
  • On what sort of device do you have that displays caller ID information?
  • Do you have more than one Caller ID display?  Are they all failing or just one?

Greetings and thanks for the quick reply Jeffer MC.

By "landline" I mean VOIP.
Phone is an AT&T CL84100 that I've used for about 9 years with no issues.
Both the base and the remote handset are not showing Caller ID.

Unplugged/replugged everything and reset the Gateway device.

Mercury is in retrograde, though, so maybe I should just blame the planets and try for a fix next week? ;) lol

I'm not sure if the base on the CL84100 picks out the caller ID information and sends it to the handset or the handset gets the raw line signal and processes it on its own to get the caller ID information.  As such, I'm still not sure what to make of the situation, i.e. is it that the phone isn't seeing a caller ID signal that is there, or the Gateway isn't sending the caller ID signal.

Which model Gateway do you have, and do you know if it recently got a firmware update (i.e. a software change that might have played with it)?  If it's a BGW model, the firmware version is on the System Information tab, e.g. Software Version 3.19.4.  If you have 3.19.4, then you haven't had it more than about a week and there could be a problem with it providing caller Id.

You might try a Factory Reset on the Gateway.  Sometimes that clears up issues when the Gateway isn't acting correctly for which no other resolution can be found.

If you have another phone with CID display or a CID box see if they work. If not reset the modem again by unplugging from power for a minute or so and see if that fixes it, if no again, report.

Thanks all, will wait a bit and do another unplug/reset and then a factory reset.  And then the dreaded call to support if that doesn't work lol

Thanks for the quick replies, will let you know how it goes!
