Anonymous call rejection

When we enter *77, we just hear a dial tone. Anonymous calls are NOT rejected. What are we doing wrong? Our bill shows that we have Caller ID and Selective Blocking. I tried phoning customer service, but after 28 minutes in the menu system, I still could not get an answer to my question.

If you have POTS it *77 if you have U-verse it's *77# you should get a confirmation tone after it's activated.
