Problem with a Model 83464

I have a Model 83464 base station which will not respond to any button presses on the base itself. I cannot listen to messages. I cannot setup the answering system. Menu/Select does not bring up any options. Every button on the face of the base station is totally nonresponsive. I can dial a call with the handset registered to the base. I can use any of the five other satellite handsets registered to the base. Is there any way to reset the base station to recover proper use?

If removing the base unit from power for a minute or so doesn't fix it that I'd say your base unit has gone bad. Is the display or any of the lights that normally work still working?

The display is asking me if I want to setup the answering system.  The Menu/Select button should confirm I want to perform the setup procedure. But the base unit will not accept any button presses.

If you tried powering in down and that didn't work than I'd say the base is bad.

@ATTHelp The model is in the subject line, if you put that into the AT&T manual web site you'll come up with a CL83464. The manual can be found here

The phone is an AT&T Model CL83464 DECT 6.0 cordless telephone/answering system with caller ID/call waiting.

The only thing mentioned in the manual about resetting the unit is to unplug it for 15 seconds then restore the power. I left the unit unplugged overnight with no change.  Looks like AT&T phone equipment is not nearly as reliable as I was expecting. I can see no reason why this unit has failed after four years of service.  Looks like the corporation had its glory days during the time when they were known as the Bell System and made phone equipment as Western Electric.

@ATTHelp Aminah, what good would it do to test the service when it's an equipment issue? The base should accept the commands and respond to the buttons pressed with no line connected. @timbereman You'll get no argument from me that the phones made by Western Electric were much better made, but they had nowhere near the technology that's in phones today. Electronic components do go bad.
