Incoming number in my directory is shown as UNKNOWN NAME

My cordless phone is displaying all incoming calls with UNKNOWN NAME and number. This happens even for my contact list in the phone's directory.

According to the manual, the Memory match should take place, after the last 7 digits of a telephone number in the directory is matched from the incoming call, then the name is supposed to appear as how I entered it in my directory.

The Caller ID from my company is only sending the Number not the Name. Why is the phone not matching the number to display the name from the directory in the screen?

Any help is much appreciated.

What phone are you talking about?  Manufacturer/Model?

Make sure the numbers are in your directory, but if the calls are showing unknown name and number there's nothing to match as nothings being sent.  If this is digital service reset the modem. You can try another phone to see if it shows anything coming in on the CID.

Hi @JefferMC, My phone is a model DL72219. I have all the settings at the default. The Smart call blocker is on.

Hi @spoom2, The numbers are in the directory. The incoming call is displayed on the phone as UNKNOWN NAME/123-456-7890. I have the number 123-456-7890 in the directory associated with My Name. Then the number should be matched against the directory to display My Name instead of UNKNOWN NAME right?

It is a digital service, I am going to reset the modem to see if there is any difference. I will try with a different phone as well.

Manual for DL72219 make sure the directory is correct.  Yes if the last 7 match per the manual it should display what's in the directory.

Hi.

I am in Canada with Rogers home phone network (via cable network). My AT&T cordless phone is model DL72319 which is a 3-handset, with features identical to the DL72219 of this post which is a 2-handset. I do have call display subscription with Rogers.

My AT&T cordless phone displays number but does not display the name of the caller even though the directory contains the information, it displays UNKNOWN NAME & number. The issue seems to happen only when the caller uses a cell phone and not a landline phone.

What bothers me the most is that my other cordless phone (Panasonic KX-TGA410C) does display the name of the "wireless" caller with the exact identical set up, if the caller name was saved in the directory.

I have made a lot of research over the internet, tried many things, but nothing works. That's why I am coming to this forum to see if anyone has some other suggestions.

Thanks

Per PDF page 66 of the manual posted in this topic if the name and number are in the directory and the phone companies incoming caller id matches it should display the name. If you're getting unknown name and number than the phone system is not recognizing the CID number that the phone company is sending. If that's the case there's nothing you can do except get a phone system that's not as picky. Make sure name and number are both entered in your directory. Which are the same suggestion already made in this year old topic.

@oalias : Could you please update what you have done to solve the name display issue on your DL72219 ?

@spoom2 : I do not understand what you meant by "the phone system is not recognizing the CID number that the phone company is sending". The CID number is displayed on the telephone display so it is there. Can the telephone not just take the displayed number, match it with the directory, then display the associated name from the directory ? (similar to what my iphone would do).

Member @oalias posted twice over a year ago so I'm assuming resetting their modem resolved their issue.

What I mean is the phone system must recognize the FSK code that is sent with the CID information, it's possible the code being sent isn't as pure as the phone system is looking for. Is your service digital or is it a traditional wire phone line? If digital did you try resetting the modem. You state it's through your cable service so it's most likely digital. Reset the modem, you have nothing to lose.

@PhilToronto : the phone company was sending the ID as UNKNOWN NAME, so I presume it has to do with a kind of read-only field that cannot be overridden by my contacts list. The resetting of the modem did not work.

To make things worst, my provider moved from cable to fiber and now the are sending the caller's phone number in the ID field, and null at the number field. Therefore the phone cannot do any match against the contacts list because the number is not provided.

I submitted inquiries to my company about this but they are very stubborn to do anything different.

No practical solution for me I guess. I hope you have better luck.
