Try holding "0" to get an option to unmute. Once unmuted use the menu to adjust your ringer volume back up. May not fix your issue though, as mute should affect your volume, not the caller's You can also try adjusting the volume up while connected to a caller.

An exact model number would help us better troubleshoot and find the right info.

That is the model number. The different ones refer to how many handsets were packaged with it. While in a call unmute by pushing the MUTE / DELETE key. MUTE refers to your microphone so the caller cannot hear you if it is muted. If you cannot hear the caller, try adjusting the volume up while in a call. If you still cannot hear them, it is likely that the speaker has broken. Sounds like you have a physical manual, but a digital one is found here.

If the phone is telling you it's muted and you can't unmute as well as when you hang up than pick up the phone again it will be unmuted. Unplug your phone from power and remove the batteries from the handsets wait a few seconds than plug back in and put the batteries in. Place a call and see if it works if not and it still indicates it's muted you may have a bad phone. If you have a corded phone try it.
