Amen. Trying to cancel a landline is a nightmare. This forum is a joke. Absolutely no help at all, so it might as well be run by AT&T. No, it doesn't help to call the customer service line. You get the runaround. When you try to cancel on the website, it says, "submitted, but it may not work, and if it doesn't, you still have to pay for the service". This after they told me, when I ordered fiber, that yes, they surely would cancel my landline by the end of december. But they haven't. I really hate AT&T now and will do what I can to get another service and cut off all payments to them. What horrible criminal sleazy crap this is. I have to say I wouldn't have expected a big bloated company to be screwing all of us little people. It's so unnecessary, and we do have other options. Does it really pay enough to rip people off in this way that they can afford to lose those customers? Well, of course it does, at that scale.

The loyalty number is the key. That individual was not only helpful but kind and honest. I can't say the same for the customer service people I spoke to, nor for the website.
What a relief. AT&T keeps this carefully hidden away and I can't imagine why. That's a lot of suffering for people who are already, no doubt, overloaded, when all they want to do is cancel service. Whoever set up this torture protocol should be ashamed.

Did you miss that the domain name is "att.com"? Of course it's run by AT&T.

dmmunro - I'm glad that you were able to reach someone to help you via the Loyalty line, but, as you say, this is criminal. I spent many hours trying to cancel my service and although it was finally canceled, here I am, years later, with no refund for all the charges incurred because they couldn't connect me to the correct department for months. Sadly, there seems to be nothing that we can do about it except to avoid AT&T in the future.

I just called the loyalty department number, spoke to a very nice young woman for probably about 5 minutes, and she disconnected my land line immediately. I’m glad I found this discussion because it probably saved me a lot of time and frustration.
