expired Northlane debit card

I closed an ATT landline account a while ago, and some time later ATT sent me the refund on my unused negative balance in the form of a Northlane.com debit card. But I didn't really pay much attention to it. But when I went to activate it, it didn't work, and then I noticed it expired, valid through 9/2021. Actually, I'd thought expiring debit cards had been illegal for a while, at least in my state (CA). Guess not. What am I supposed to do? Will ATT extend it or issue a new card or send me a check?  If that's not their policy, I'd really like to know what happens to this money I'm owed? Does ATT keep it? Or does Northlane keep it? Or something else? Thanks all.

If you read the paperwork in the envelope with the card, you will see that you can have the card reissued.  Note that there can be a fee for reissuing the card, and there is a monthly maintenance fee applied once the initial expiration date passed (which is disclosed on the paper that the card is attached to).  

To get the card reissued with a future expiration date, call 877-200-8555.

Mine expires in April 2022 (6 months after they sent it).  Thanks for the reminder to use it before then.

UPDATE: After more careful reading, it appears that as long as you haven't activated it yet, the first reissue is free and any monthly transaction fee will be refunded when you do activate it.  But that's a one time thing.

Thanks @JefferMC, I now see that number 877-200-8555 as being for Northlane Technologies. I don't see anywhere that it says you can get the card reissued, but maybe it's in the 18-page card agreement. Anyhow, the voice response menu only allows me to either hear my account balance or report my card lost or stolen. I tried just dialing zero (0) a few times, and then it impolitely said it couldn't help me and hung up. Any idea what else to try?

You could try emailing them at help (at) northlane.com or the https://login.northlane.com/ATT page mentioned on the back of the card letter (which is also where I got the phone number).

Avoid doing anything that would "activate" the card prior to getting them to reissue it.

@JefferMC thanks again. I tried calling 877-200-8555 again. Even though when you call, Northlane Technologies's voice response robot only give you a choice of getting balance or reporting card lost or stolen, when I chose the latter, I got through to a human, and they agreed to send me a new card with balance minus $3, deducted for monthly fee.

I activated my card. I want to transfer my refund to my US bank, as it stated on the paperwork.  But I can't. So much like AT&T to never may anything easy and not be able to get anyone the phone... smh in disgust!

My elderly mother moved from her home to my house last year - and in this process received a refund from ATT in the form of a northlane debit card. I helped her activate the card and she used a small portion of it then held on to the card for about a year before wanting to use it. It was denied and turns out it had expired in 3/22. I tried calling customer service and logging in on the northlane website but it doesn't even recognize the card number anymore and as stated in this thread "impolitely" hangs up. Basically not giving anyone an option to fix this easily. It was our mistake to miss the expiration date, but it sure would have been nice to be able to recover the leftover amount on the debit card for my mother who is 85 and on a limited income. Very disappointing and seems very unprofessional on the part of ATT using northlane cards.

Once the card was activated, and the expiration date passed, the balance was likely eaten by a monthly fee.  Had she not activated it, then you should have been able to get it reissued with the full balance.
