Does AT&T realize they are proving they don't care about customer loyalty?

Ok  personally I have never liked AT&T, but when I married my wife she loved AT&T and wanted to continue using them so I agreed. We just moved to a new state and had AT&T (The only fiber optic internet provider for our area) install their internet in our home The technician that installed the fiber optic informed us that since we also had phone service thru AT&T that we could bundle our internet and phone service and receive a 25% discount to our phone service bill for life. (A new promotion that AT&T has going on) We thought great that's awesome. So i just got off the phone with AT&T and i was informed by their billing department that as my wife has had her service for phone with AT&T for over 15 years we are not eligible for that promotion. We have had an account with them for too long. 
ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!? So being a loyal long standing customer is a BAD thing now?

Needless to say they have reaffirmed that i think they are crap and my wife is now being over ruled. We WILL be getting a new provider, both for phone and for internet.
