CAN I GET MY LANDLINE PHONE NUMBER BACK?

My old landline number has never been assigned to anyone else since my relocation back when landline phone numbers were not portable. I have moved back to my previous residence and hope to be able to reclaim the landline number my family had for decades.

CAN I GET MY OLD LANDLINE PHONE NUMBER BACK?

How can I go about it?

I looked into getting a new landline in hopes of recovering the number, but landline service was denied.

I purchased a prepaid AT&T Go Phone, but have found no customer service to aid in getting the number back.

This is important to me; but I'm now considering going to another company where I can get service when I need it. (I've even tried going to Cricket, but no service was offered there either).

Well, it's possible, but it can take a lot of time and expense. I basically disconnected my old landline number when I moved to a different state. That was several years ago and the number has never been assigned to anyone else. If I were to call it, it says that the number is disconnected. Now, according to the phone company that owns it, I would have to start service from their company again and request the number. I would have a temporary number until they can pull the old number into service. Once that is completed, then I can request to have the number transferred to a different carrier. (The number needs to be active in order to do a port transfer.) If you want to go through all that (working out the best scenario on that, it would cost me about $200 to go all through that). They can port it to a landline or a cellular system.
