Bill Higher Than Expected - Things to know from the AT&T Community

If your Home Phone bill is higher than expected, the following may have occurred:

Partial Month Charges

  • Partial month charges will occur if services are added or removed during a billing cycle, prior to the bill date.
  • Services Billed in Advance are prorated when they are added or removed during a billing cycle, prior to the bill date. The actual amount prorated is determined by the number of days the services were used for that billing cycle.

Billed in Arrears

Some charges, including actual usage charges, are billed in arrears (after the fact). Examples of these charges include local usage, long-distance and pay per-use.

Promotional Credits

Promotional credits may have expired on your most recent bill. Visit Current & Expired Promotions page for a list of current promotions.

Discounts

It may take 1-2 billing cycles for some discounts to appear on your bill. Please pay the full amount due on your bill by the due date, to avoid billing issues in the future.

International Calls

You may not have a call plan for International calls.

Unexpected Calls

Information, operator-assisted or entertainment calls were made from your phone that you were not aware of.

Taxes

Taxes may apply to charges for products and services included in your bill. Specific taxes vary by state and locality.

Surcharges and Other Fees

These are charges authorized by law and may include state-specific surcharges or regulatory fees. Examples include the Federal Subscriber Line Charge and the Federal Universal Service Fee.

Combined Bills

You may have requested combined bills, and the bills have different bill cycles.

I was a DIRECTV customer and have also been AT&T customer for years. I cancelled my DIRECTV because of fee's, add on's, expiring discounts, etc.. My bill was never consistent. Unfortunately I see AT&T is now starting with the same practice. I cut the cord on cable, we adjusted. May need to do the same with WIFI too. What will we do for entertainment? I guess we will have to spend time with each other, like an oldschool family!!

After the "initial promotional" 12 month phase I decided to stay with AT&T.... My bill went from $160 to $230. I know, it is insane. Have tried to have a supervisor call and explain to me (4 separate times) why a random person who signs up should pay less than a loyal customer who has never missed a payment in 12 months. Still waiting on that call. Also, my equipment was down for three days, but luckily they came between 8am-2pm today (a Sunday). Whenever you want to call me, I'm waiting!!! Looking forward to switching to Time Warner next month

Got my first bill att honored their contract of 2 year price promotion with me. Then it was taken off same month. A social manager on this page put it back on. within 10 days it was removed again. I have called also to ATT been told sorry about the inconvience.. Today. a service manager says All ATT told me wrong. So sorry.. He can't do anything... I told him that isn't right. You need to honor your contract. He tells me he will check with his office and see what changes they can do. Told me I never qualified for the promotion. I am so frustrated..This is a contract. I want what was promised to me.

My promotional offer with AT&T is expiring on 12/30, so after I updated and signed another contract with DirectTV, I figured I would update my contract with AT&T After being transferred to a Rep, who could help me with the internet portion, I asked about what internet promotions were available, I was told due to 1 promotion on my account, that I could not add another promotion till Jan 1st,2017 that I needed to call back on the 1st to see what promotions were available; How can one turn down business! I was a guarantee future billing! I do not understand how a technology giant such as AT&T has something so minor turning away business. Maybe an effective & expiration date needs to be added to each promotion, that way numerous promotions can be on an account. This experience has me wanting to find another internet carrier; I'll be looking till the 1st!

Me too!  Call after call I get hung up on and noone will still help me.  I got a response from theis RSS feed but after I gave them my contact information, they still never contacted me or even openned the message containing that contact information.  Now they are sending the account to collections for an accoun I closed in July, paid in full in August send my equipment in and accurued $500 in charges after all that?  There is no responisbility with ATT and they should take a lesson from Wells Fargo about broken managment processes.

I have been dealing with a billing and sales error since late August/September. Sales agent sold me on new service (All distance + Canada) saying it would be cheaper than just local service. Received bill, was huge. Have called every month to fix the disputed charges was told I only owed 32 a month as was quoted, the sales man who changed my plan had "misinformed me," and credits would be posted. Nothing as of yet has been credited on AT&T'S end, though I have paid the moment or within a day of speaking to a rep always before the monthly due date. Now I am incurring late fees due to outstanding balance of 190, with a 40 or 42 a month service charge that was supposed to be nor more originally than $28.50. I have spoken to atleast 4 representatives about this. Each supposedly taking notes, promising this timenit is fixed, pay this amount (credited amount), yet nothing has been resolved. How can I guarantee the actions, reversals, plan change and credits will be handled properly? Whom do I speak to and how to reach someone whom can finally resolve this completely?
