Using Outlook 2016

I have multiple email addresses that pickup mail via Outlook 2016.  Recently my primary stopped working.  I tried restarting the app, rebooting the laptop, checking settings, changing the Secure Mail Key, using IMAP and also POP settings per instructions, Changing the SMK and trying again, deleting the email address and trying to add again as new and going thru the whole setup processes many, many times.  I've also tried "yahoo.com" instead of the ATT settings all met with the same issue.  Fails to log in.  SMY has been checked carefully.  I can log in to my primary email via a Web Browser and I can get another att.net email via the same Outlook program with no issues.  (Also set up with a SMK and IMAP... via yahoo.com (imap.mail.yahoo.com) . )   I can't find any email support to run the problem thru so this seems to be the only resource that might be able to help resolve the problem.  Fingers crossed ;)

Let's get your email working, @AFburke

You've definitely been diligent with your troubleshooting so far. We recommend resetting your email password. Even if you're entering the correct password, this can still help as it will resync your email.

  1. Go to att.com/myatt.
  2. Select Forgot password?
  3. Fill out the password info.
  4. Choose security questions or temporary password and follow the prompts. If you choose a temporary password, we’ll let you know where we sent it.
  5. Create your new password.

If that doesn't help, please let us know what error message you're getting, so we can get a better idea of why this is happening and how to fix it.

Suggested solution doesn't work.  I've since deleted and created new SMKs, reset passwords, tried a multitude of settings with no joy.  I do have a secondary email working via Outlook but replicating the settings for my primary email doesn't work.  I did discover that there is an .ost file from my email still in the data files even though I deleted my email in the attempt to re-add it as new.  I did export an .ost file before deleting my primary mail address from Outlook.  the existing OST file may be why I cannot re-add my primary email to Outlook.  Cannot find any way to delete that data file though.  Before I dig to find where the remaining Outlook file is on my PC (not my backup file) could that remnant file be the issue?

Just to refine the previous comment.   In Outlook I can see a data file associated with my primary email address but cannot remove it.  Choosing "remove" directs me back to a message that reads. "This file is associated with a mail account.  To remove, use the 'Email" tab".  Going to the email tab in the Data file the email address is not there. (Due to deleting the acct previously)

Thanks for getting back to us, AFburke.

Before we continue, we'd like for you to contact Microsoft Outlook's support team to determine if the problem is with Outlook 2016. We don't officially support or troubleshoot 3rd party email clients such as Outlook, so reaching out to them would be a good next step.

If everything is good on their end, then this is likely due to a problem with the email account itself. If that's the case, we can take a closer look at that for you.

Let us know what they found, and we'll go from there.
