Email will not send

I am unable to send email (but can receive), have been unable to send email for almost 2 weeks. Called on 7/2 and was promised a call back from the “back office”, but have not heard anything. Please help if you have experienced this issue. I would really like to have my email fully functional again. Thank you.

Moving this post to the Email forum.

@mac990

There's a lot of info that you could have provided so someone could help you, but didn't for some reason.  Just a few of them....

Webmail?

Email Client/App? Which one?

If the latter, IMAP or POP3?

What is the exact error message you get?

What have you done/changed to try and get it to work?

email: through the web, the yahoo app, the apple mail app. I am unable to send mail from any of them.

I have deleted my account from my phone, changed my password, reinstalled the account and apps. I have tried sending a webmail from a non-apple device. All still a no-go. Can not send email to ATT or non-ATT emails.

when trying to send through my apple phone I receive the following message and the email sits in the outbox: Cannot Send Mail
The connection to the
outgoing server
"apple.smtp.mail.yahoo.com
" failed. Additional Outgoing
Mail Servers can be
configured for Mail
accounts in Settings > Mail
> Accounts.

when trying to send through the yahoo app or webmail a message bar appears for a brief second that says email failed to send and then the email disappears (not in drafts or a outbox)

I have had this account for over a decade and have never had an issue like this. I did not change anything, it just started to not work over 2 weeks ago.

since I am unable to send email from multiple devices (apple and non-apple), I do not think the issue is related to my iPhone, but rather my ATT account.

So if use your browser to go to www.currently.com and log in, you don't have issues getting to the Inbox, correct?  And if you send an email right from there it never goes out, it just disappears into the ether?

Yeah, that should definitely eliminate your devices from the equation.  Now, the real question is, what can you do about that.  I don't see that you have any choice but to subject yourself to the mind numbing experience that is 800-288-2020 with the faint hope of a solution.

One thing I did notice about your error.  You're the second person I've seen this week with the smtp server set to apple.smtp.mail.yahoo.com.  I don't have any Apple products to test with so I guess it's possible that Apple does something weird but that's not the "official server".

Here are the servers that should be in use.

NOTE:  In the last couple of weeks (hey, right about when you started to have issues!) people have had to switch to the old server names because of what we felt was a security cert issue.
The old servers are:
imap.mail.yahoo.com (or pop.mail.yahoo.com if you use POP3)
smtp.mail.yahoo.com

Hey there, mac990, we'll gladly help you get back to sending emails.

A good place to start is with updating your server settings using the chart that tonydi provided.

If you're still unable to send emails, don't worry, we have more options you can try.

We'll be awaiting your response!

Tonydi’s response was helpful and thorough (I appreciate that), but I can still not send emails.

please advise of other suggestions. My most recent call to ATT (yesterday 7/12) was suppose to be followed up on today by noon - I have not heard anything back from the supervisor yet.
