Can't re-establish mail account

I'm having the same trouble everyone else is having.  This started several days ago.  I checked my bellsouth.net email using the native Samsung Android email app.  Got this message: "To use this account, you need to verify your identity.  Tap your account below to sign in."  Tapped the "account below" and started to enter my password and all of a sudden I was presented with a screen that wanted me to start a Yahoo account.  No way around that.  So I deleted the bellsouth.net email account from my phone, went to settings and started to re-establish the account.  All okay 'till I got to the part where I was to enter my password.  Again, the "sign up for Yahoo" screen came up.  How can I get around this and set up my bellsouth.net account again?

This only occurs on my phone, a Galaxy S20 FE 5G.  On my desk computer, Outlook signs into and downloads email from my bellsouth.net account with not problems.

Hey @fwbples61. We'd be happy to help you get logged into your email account.

For our AT&T Mail service, we have a new mail client called Currently that you can use to manage your emails. Please try to log in to Currently using the same login credentials for your bellsouth.net account, and let us know if you're able to log in.

Let us know if you need any further help.

No, I can't sign in to Currently.  When I try to sign in, I get the following message:

The limit for unsuccessful sign-in attempts has been reached. Select Forgot user ID or Forgot password to restore access.

Thanks for sharing that information with us @fwbples61.

We are aware of the Care Code 205 that you're getting, and our technicians are working to get this resolved as quickly as possible. The specific code you're getting means that you'll need to wait a full 24 hours before resetting your password. Attempting to sign in before the full 24 hours will reset the timer.

We'd recommend clearing the cache and cookies from the device you're using. This can help clear any saved data that could be interfering with your login credentials.

Let us know if these steps help.

ATTHelp Robert.....

First you said Currently was a new email client.  It's not an email client, it's a web page leading you to the webmail interface.

Then you said you need to wait 24 hrs before resetting your password.  A quick search of that error shows that some ATTHelp boilerplates say reset the password first and then wait 24hrs.  Some say wait 72 hrs!  And of course some say just reset the password without any mention of waiting at all.

I don't suppose there could be a meeting of the minds on this and figure out a consistent message going forward, huh?
