Why does my email keep getting “There have been too many failed sign in attempts.” error code 205.2?

Keep getting “There have been too many failed sign in attempts.”  error code 205.2 each time I try to log in to ATT Yahoo email account.

I am entering the correct username & password so this is an erroneous error.

What can be done to stop this erroneous message each time I login??

I have had this problem for several years.  I keep resetting my password, which has allowed me to access email again.  This is not a great solution, just what I have been able to find that works.  I have tried to get additional information from AT&T support without any success.

Unfortunately, the password reset technique is not working for me today, as I am not successfully logged in after resetting the password.  I was hoping to get some other suggestions from this forum.

We're here to help you get logged in, @justmeber.

Since you're using Yahoo Mail, we recommend that you Create a Secure Mail Key for security purposes. This encrypts your username and password which is required for your email to work properly.

Also, we suggest to take a further step and try these troubleshooting steps for when your email is not working.

Let us know how it goes!

Thanks.  I will study the issues when I have more time.  I did set up a secure mail key a long time ago.  That is working when I access email from a variety of devices and apps.  The problem is only when accessing email from browsers.  Clearing cookies does not help.  There must be some other link that I have not figured out.

We will be waiting for your update, @justmeber.

  • Are you using your email password or the secure mail key as the password when logging in on your web browser?

We recommend trying the following:

  • Using another web browser to log in to find out if it is a browser issue.
  • Try using multiple devices to see if you have the same issue.

Let us know if you still need further assistance with this.

When logging in from a Web browser, I go to currently.att.yahoo.com and use my email password.  I normally use Firefox or Chrome, but have also tested with Edge.  I have apps set up on several devices and these are working fine.  Plus, I do not get locked out when using other apps, even when I am locked out on the browser.  This just turns into a big waste of time.  Although I can check my email through other apps, there are certain activities such as blocking spam and modifying settings that are best done through a browser connection.

Hi @justmeber, let's get you logged into your emails.

If you're like most people, you have email apps that let you read and manage email on your computer and mobile devices.

  • For your security, we suggest you only use email apps with an email technology known as Open Authentication or OAuth.
  • OAuth encrypts your username and password to protect your info from hackers and fraudsters.

If you are using Outlook, or any other desktop program / email app that is not currently compatible with Open Authentication (OAuth), you will need to create aSecure Mail Key as what you have already done.

  • Soon you'll have to use either OAuth or a Secure Mail Key to get your email through an app.

Let us know if this helps!

Thank you for contacting us on AT&T Community Forums!

I manage my bosses emails on my own desktop computer & she has them set up on her computer as well. I use Edge as a browser on my computer. We also both have her email set up on our phones. My email randomly signs me out & when I try to sign back in, it tells me I have tried too many times to sign in & it locks me out. She however, does not have the same issue. What can I do to fix it so we don't have to keep changing the password every day? It's getting really frustrating for both of us. I need something that will work so that we can both continue to have access to her email account. Thank you.

You'll get answers but they won't make the issue go away. 😞

Now that you're in this forum you can avoid waiting for ATTHelp to drop in here with their boilerplate suggestions by going back up to the lists of posts and looking at any of the hundred that describe the same issue.

As of right now, you'll need to do the Forgot password each time this comes up.  However, don't change to a new one, just keep entering the same one each time.  That at least avoids having to change it on every device that accesses that account.
