Recent massive failure in Sp*m filtering

About three weeks ago, I started getting flooded with Sp*m. I have spoken with other ATT based e-mail users who have experienced the same. It looks like Current/Yahoo stopped filtering Sp*m. There does not seem to be a way to contact either of those companies to get the issue resolved. Can someone at ATT help us out. It is nearly a third of my e-mail at this point. Setting filters does not help because senders never use the same domain twice.

We'd be happy to address your concern about spam email, GinaEff.

As tonydi mentioned, there's not much we can do to keep spam emails from landing in your inbox. However, you can forward them to us at abuse@att.net so that we can investigate where they're coming from.

You'll also want to read through our guide on how to Protect yourself from email spam. It covers the main reasons people get spam and how you can avoid it.

If you need help with anything else, let us know. Thanks for contacting the AT&T Community Forums team.

Sadly, I'm afraid you're out of luck here.  AT&T contracts with Yahoo to provide the email service so they don't really have the ability (or, frankly, the desire) to do anything about the spam.  They see it as "not my job".  And yes, ATTHelp will probably be along her soon enough, maybe even inviting you into a private message session with the idea that they'll help.  They can't.

The only person who can help you is......you.  Switch to some other email service (Gmail, Outlook.com) who does a much better job at not only capturing spam but providing a reliable service overall.

I know it's a huge pain but it's really the only way.  Both of the services I mentioned have tools to import your existing Yahoo mail over to their side so that helps a bit.

I am on here because of the same issue as the original poster. Thanks for the reply. Not the answer I wanted, but probably the most accurate.

I am wondering why the abrupt change? Until a few weeks ago, spam filtering was working great. What changed?

I've spoken with several and the spam flood started suddenly, and as best we can tell, at the same time. It was like a light switch flipped (or a spam filter disabled on the server end).

I'm probably being cynical, but when I went to the server site via webpage and marked a number of e-mails as spam, I was offered a paid service upgrade by Yahoo.

Cynical is sometimes reality.  😁  In this case I'm not sure since there's really no added functionality in Yahoo Mail+ as far as spam filters.  Yeah, they offer the ability to block domains but as anyone who looks at spam very closely, you'll never stop it that way because the spammers continually change domain names.

As far as it suddenly starting up, it could be that Yahoo was hit with yet another data breach and we just haven't been informed about it yet.  But as I've said in other posts I've been seeing an explosion in spam in my own gmail accounts recently so who knows.

@mcbertram Same here. My quest to resolve the issue led to the paid Yahoo service. Not happening!

@tonydi In terms of importing into outlook or Gmail, is it more than forwarding att.net email to Gmail or outlook accounts?  It would seem to truly move to outlook/gmail, it would require changing a lot of email address at businesses, subscriptions,...

I already forward some of my subs to Gmail, but not the primary one.  If I can't access the subs or the primary att.net account, is there a sense that I would still receive them, but just not be able to access them on currently/yahoo?

Thanks!

I am having the exact same issue - it was an abrupt change and influx of spam starting last week that never reached the inbox before so must be some back-end AT&T Yahoo server problem. Please investigate and fix ASAP AT&T!

Let's get that spam under control, @wahl8888!

You can view these tips on how to Protect yourself from email spam, primarily the section titled Tips to avoid email spam.

You can also forward the spam emails to our abuse team at abuse@att.net to report the various spam messages you are getting.
