Let's get that email program to send out email again, nbtx.
According to your post it looks like you are using outdated settings in your MacMail email client. Let's work on updating those settings. Here are the steps that you need to take to update your program:
You can find those steps in our support article entitled: Set up or update AT&T email - Apple Mail (OS X).
If these steps above do not help, our recommendation is to remove the account and set it up again with the steps outlined above.
Please update us and let us know if you are able to send email again using MacMail.

@nbtx You are NOT using outdated settings if the Mac mail is set up to do POP3. But definitely look at the link provided for other possible issues.
Also, make sure the account is not having issues at Yahoo's end by going to https://currently.com and signing in with your wife's email address and password (not Secure Mail Key, which is only used on email clients, not in web browsers).

Both my account and the wife's are POP - mine has been working fine and so was hers until a week ago. I do not see a way to change her account to IMAP. see step 3 above.

tonydi: I think your comment got truncated ... and I am pretty sure the problem is at the current server world. I can read and send email from her account on the server.

Let's get your email working properly for you again, @nbtx.
If the steps above aren't working, the next best thing you can do is reach out to our postmasters. You can reach them by emailing abuse_rbl@abuse-att.net at your convenience. They'll be able to look into your account for you and see if there's any potential issues with it that could be causing you not to be able to send or receive emails.
Let us know if you have any other questions or concerns, and thanks for reaching out on the AT&T Community Forums!

Weird, I can see my whole post so I'm not sure why your display is cutting it off. Here's a screen cap below. Regardless, you just confirmed what I was asking in the part you can't see so that's good.
You can't change a POP3 account to IMAP, you'd have to set it up a new account and then move existing mail over manually.
Have you checked all the settings for POP3 against that article Matthew posted (except do not use port 25 for outgoing, use 465)? You said you got a new SMK. Did you do that because you were having this problem or did the problem start after you got the new key?
What, exactly, does the Mail program give you for an error message?

currently.com redirects to the familiar https://mail.yahoo.com/ link and her login and password work correctly.
this is the error when trying to send from Mac MAIL:
The sender address (Wifey's email address) was rejected by the server
outbound.att.net - server response was Email rejected and I used the secure key that her yahoo account claims is in use.
(For some reason I can't put a screen shot here ...)

BTW, I assumed (wrong thing to do) her SMK got corrupted so I got a new one and applied it - no change.

Something seems off here. Currently should not redirect to mail.yahoo. If you start at mail.yahoo you should end up at the att.net login page.
Also, you mention that the Yahoo account is claiming a certain secure key is in use. The SMK is an AT&T thing, generated from att.com. Yahoo shouldn't really even acknowledge the SMK in any of their screens. Now, Yahoo uses something called an "app password" for access yahoo.com addresses.
Anyway, that error typically means that there's a level of authentication that's not in effect. It could be that it doesn't recognize the SMK or, there's usually a setting in email clients that essentially says my server requires authentication and if that's not checked, you get this error.
