My father is locked out of account

My father has had an email account for twenty years. After sbcglobal migrated to ATT, he was able to continue to log in until approximately a month ago. At that point, he effectively became locked out of his account. When he goes to log in, he received the following error message:

“Check your entry and try again. Keep in mind, you’ll have to reset your password after too many unsuccessful sign-in attempts.
Customer Care Code: 201”
When we go to recover his customer ID, ATT confuses him with our longtime ATT phone account. When we try to recover his password, it says that it will send his password to numbers/emails that are clearly not associated with him or our family. Beyond that, customer service over the phone has been impossible, and we’re getting demoralized. The customer service reps have not been able to figure out what’s going on. My father is not very patient and is super busy at work these days, so he can’t take 1-2 days off to get things done.

Is there a problem with the sbcglobal migration to ATT? Can anyone explain this care code?

We're here to help with getting you logged back into your email, @Enhydralutris.

If you're currently locked out of your email, then the information @tonydi helpfully provided is accurate, and you'll want to do a password reset to get back into your accout. If you're having trouble remembering the correct ID you need to use to reset the password on your email, then we recommend checking out our article on what to do when you've forgotten your User ID. Just follow the steps provided and you'll be able to retrieve the ID you'll need to use for your email.

We hope the information helps! Let us know if you're able to get back into your email.

Look at the list of posts in this forum.  You'll see it's almost entirely filled with similar messages.  It's got nothing to do with migration. HERE is the official explanation.

There is no fix at this point (many are beginning to wonder if there will ever be one) and ATTHelp just gives out the same workaround (Forgot Password).  In your case that doesn't work and AT&T has nothing else to suggest.

Very frustrated woke up this morning to be locked out.

ATT needs the 3 digit code after my old phone number from 20 years ago…..obviously I don’t have it so I’m screwed
