How to Reset your Email Password using myAT&T

You are here because you can't sign in to your email or you forgot one of your many passwords. Resetting your password is one of the fastest solutions. Let's get started!

How To Change Your Password

Go to www.att.com or use the myAT&T app:

  1. Login to the myAT&T app, scroll, and select "My plans & features"

  2. Hit the "plus" button next to your service and select "Manage my network & email"

  3. Select "Change Email Password"

Note: If you are still unable to log in after resetting your password, wait 12 hours for the system to update and try again.

Security Questions Help & Free Accounts

If you recently attempted to reset your password, you can use your account at www.att.com to reset it. Please note:

  • The email must be tied to an active account for a password reset to work
  • Free emails do not have the option to reset via an att.com unless there is an account tied to it

Free Email

A free email is a standalone email account that once was tied to an AT&T account. Once that account is canceled, AT&T no longer has the ability to reset your password. In order to reset your password, you must use your security questions to reset it

If you do not remember your security questions/ answers. AT&T WILL NOT reset your account. This is done to protect personal information since we cannot validate the email address. It is like giving away the keys to your car without verifying it is belongs to you.  AT&T currently has no workaround for these types of issues and is unable to assist.

Good evening @TerryRohr!

I recommend resetting your password so you may recover your account.  If still having issues, please call the number above for the Digital Assistance Center. Let us know if you are experiencing issues, and we can look further into the matter.

Thank you for reaching out to the Community Forums and have a great start to your holiday weekend!

I have 3 Yahoo accounts (main and 2 sub accounts) that I have had for years (the main one going back to 1996!!!) and were associated with my AT&T account.  I was having trouble with mail performance on my native iPhone & iPad apps after upgrading to iOS 11, and one of the solutions I found online to fix the problem was to delete the email accounts from the app and re-add them.  I deleted all 3 from my iPhone, but then could only add back the main account (not the 2 sub accounts).  It wasn't a password issue, and everything I tried only led me back to the AT&T site.  Then I stumbled upon the need to unmerge my Yahoo mail accounts from my AT&T account.  Made sense to me, so I did lots of research to see what this was all about, and found some rather detailed instructions on the AT&T site that I needed to delete my mail account (main, it would also delete the sub accounts), then login to my Yahoo mail accounts and unmerge them from the AT&T account.  This also made sense.  So I got into the old AT&T account and clicked on "delete" next to the main account.  However, now I can't get back into any of my 3 Yahoo accounts to even get to unmerge them from AT&T - no matter what I do I get sent back to an AT&T page, and now AT&T doesn't recognize anything about me or my accounts.  By deleting my main account from AT&T, I'm locked out of my 3 Yahoo accounts on my desktop, iPhone and iPad and am stuck in this vicious circle.  If I go to mail.yahoo.com, I see the Yahoo logo in the upper left corner, I type in my main email address, but when I hit "next" to get to the password page, the logo in the upper left corner is the AT&T logo and the Yahoo logo, and nothing is recognized and I have no way of just getting into Yahoo.  I called AT&T support (twice today), and they tried to see if they could help, but they can't because I deleted the email account(s) from them, so it's an issue that needs to be resolved by now unmerging the Yahoo accounts from within the Yahoo accounts.  There seems to be no way to contact Yahoo for help with this - "help" just leads me to articles that don't help, and everything I click on just leads me back to AT&T.  In order for me to post in the Yahoo Users' Forum (the only way to communicate, it seems), I needed to create a new Yahoo mail account.  When I log in, it shows me the old accounts/emails. If I use the Yahoo mail app on my iPhone, I can see the new account and the old accounts and in the settings there are "sliders" that I can turn "on" if I want to add the 3 old accounts.  However, when I turn them on, they can't be accessed.  I can still see everything in the 3 old email accounts in the apps on both my iPhone and iPad, frozen in time, with no way to get into them.  How can I see them, but can't access them?  In a posting in a Yahoo forum, Yahoo stated that these issues need to start with AT&T and, if AT&T can't resolve the problem, they could escalate to Yahoo.  Tonight I was told by one of the support people at AT&T that this is not anything they can do.  As with most of us nowadays, I rely on my email for so many things (like notification of bills due, to name one of the most important things).  Sorry for rambling, but I'm about ready to have a breakdown over this.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

I keep getting a error message that says:  We couldn't access this account:  You might need to reset password or sync this account.

I've tried both with no luck.  What should I do?
