filters keep changing, move email to trash

I have noticed that my Yahoo/att email account will randomly add filters. These 2 filters will send both sent and received emails to trash.  This will happen a couple of times a year.   What is a cause?  Does a corrupted email I open do this? Does someone have access to my account?

When I review my account device history I do not see any unrecognized devices. Sign out of all devices does not seem to help either.

Hi it_toddmiller, we can help you with the filters added to your email.

Try troubleshooting your AT&T mailbox using our Login and Email Solutions guide.

  • Clear your cache and cookies - the most common fix.

  • Update your browser - many features are only compatible with the latest browser and we recommend updating it.

  • Test your webmail using another browser.

  • Disable your browser's tools or add-ons - varies by device and browser.

  • Disable your firewall - varies by device and browser.

You can also delete any filters you didn't add yourself:

  1. Select the gear.
  2. Choose Filters and then Add new filters.
  3. Edit new or existing filters and select Save.
  4. Choose other options:
    • Use the up and down arrows to prioritize your filters.
    • Select the trash can to delete a filter.

To make sure your email account is secure, we'd like to recommend the following:

Protect your computers from malware that steals your passwords and other personal data.

  • Scan all computers with an up-to-date antivirus program. AT&T AntiVirus Plus powered by McAfee is free to those who qualify. It includes antivirus, antispyware, and firewall protection
  • Use an up-to-date anti-malware application, as some malware isn't detected by antivirus scans
  • Make sure you keep your operating system up-to-date with the recommended security updates

Review and update your email settings:

Access your AT&T email settings by hovering over the gear icon, then choosing Settings. Review these areas for suspicious activity:

  • Email signature: Look for any changes to your signature or content that you don’t recognize.
  • Accounts: Check each of your email accounts. Select Edit to view the details of your account, and look for any unknown or incorrect accounts listed under POP or Forward. Check the sending name, reply-to address, spam settings, and any other details. Delete any unknown or incorrect accounts.
  • Vacation response: Disable the Vacation Response unless you need it.
  • Blocked addresses: Make sure your email address isn't listed in the Blocked Email Addresses list. If it is, remove it and select Save.
  • Contacts: Make sure the details for your contacts are correct. Delete any unknown or unfamiliar ones.

Let us know if you need further assistance.
