It is common for spammers to list one or more names in the TO/Addressee field and actually send the email (i.e. BCC it) to a lot more addresses.  It is also common for spammers to try different domains for a single mailbox name.  Both of these techniques are what you are describing and there's nothing to be done other than keelhauling all spammers.

Hi @mkosic, we understand your concern with regard to email. Let's get the help you need.

If you are receiving emails where the “to” email address is not yours, there could be a few reasons for this. Here are some steps you can take to resolve this issue:

  1. Set Junk Filter to Exclusive to make emails not coming from your contacts be directed to spam or junk folder.
  2. Add email addresses in your Block Senders List.
  3. Create a filter in Gmail to block emails from the address.

We recommend not to click on any links or download any attachments in the email. These links or attachments can install malicious software or viruses on your device. Learn how to spot fake email messages that claim to be from AT&T. Take steps to report and delete the email.

Please, report the email to AT&T using one of these options:

  • On currently: Select the Spam button in the toolbar above the message. This will also remove the email from your inbox.
  • In an email program: Forward the email to AT&T at abuse@att.net. When possible, include the full email header to help them identify the origins of the email.

Good to know: You may have been Blind Carbon Copied (Bcc) on the email. Usually this happens when the sender is actually addressing the party in the To: address, but would like you to see the information without the To: party knowing that you were included on the email.

Please feel free to reach out to us for further assistance.

3. Create a filter in Gmail to block emails from the address.

do?  The user is talking about the user's Currently/AT&T mail, not G-mail.
