Email to Setup Password Recovery Option for AT&T Email

Got an email asking for password recovery options for my AT&T email account - or else!  I have an sbcglobal.net email account, and a yahoo.com email account.  I have no idea if this is legit or what I am supposed to do, and if this is even applicable for me.  I don't like the "or else" part, so can someone give me some guidance?  Thank you!

I left this message yesterday and got no help.  Entering again.  My password was hacked so upon creating a new password, ATT sends a code to my att.net email account which cannot be accessed until the password is accepted.  6 digit code not sent to my phone or back up linked email account.

Last week I received an email asking me to verify my account for recovery purposes. I checked the forum and thought it was legit. I still don't know if it was, but it seems like I'm not the only one who got it. I've been keeping an eye on my account and today I have a message in my spam folder that says CPanel is holding 11 emails pending authentication or my email will be blocked. I'm not going to click on the link, but ATT,  please do better helping those of us who have email figure out what's real and what is a fake. I don't want to get locked out, but customer service is everything when you have a problem.

We can't see your e-mails.  We can't tell you.  If you would like to provide a screen shot of the e-mails (masking out your personal information) then we might be of more service.

Check to see what the sender's e-mail address is (not just the pretty name).  If you know how to check e-mail headers, check to see how the e-mail got to you.

In general, you should not click on links of an e-mail you have any reservations about at all, but instead go to the site for the alleged sender using links or names you already knew to check the information in the e-mail.  You can check links in an e-mail to see what the URL is, but sometimes the sender may use tricks to make a bad URL look legitimate.

This looks totally fake, but I have seen on this forum where people have been locked out of their accounts, that is my concern. The email doesn't even have a header, pretty one or ugly one.:) And the fact that it went to my Spam account is another indication it's fake. This all started last week when I received the email regarding verifying my account. I guess worst case scenario is I ditch the email I've had for 20+ years and use a different one.

Thanks

Hello,

I am trying to login to my Sbcglobal email. I am trying to reset my password. I don’t not know the security question. Is there another way to reset my password and verify my account.

Thank you

A couple of days ago I recently tried to login to my old sbcglobal.net email however I was notified that it had reached the max login attempts which was weird. I tried to reset the password but to no avail and the website said my password could not be reset. I spent hours on the phone trying to contact At&T agents about my problem. All they did was create a new email for me in hopes that I would just drop the issue. However I have MULTIPLE accounts and information on my sbcglobal.net account and can no longer get access to it and on top of that I have a useless email sitting here now. I have already filed a FCC complaint about my issue as I have seen multiple other users with this issue and theirs has been resolved. I really need access to MY account but At&t has been no help at all so far. Can anyone give me any suggestions I would really appreciate it and thank you if you are reading this.

We can assist you with setting up email recovery options, texasliz.

You can add a recovery email by following the steps for updating the contact email for your user ID:

  1. Go to Profile and then Contact info.
  2. Select the Email tab.
  3. In the User ID (formerly AT&T Access ID) email section, select Edit.
  4. Enter the email and select Save.

We also recommend that you set up text messages for password resets and

update your security questions and answers.

If you have any other questions about your email, let us know. Thanks for visiting the AT&T Community Forums.

Don't understand.  I questioned the email also, so I went to my profile and found nothing indicating "password recovery options."  My email and phone number were already marked as verified.

I received an email with that as subject line.  I have been an ATT/sbcglobal.net email user of many years and I was not aware of password recovery options.  The sending user name does not look like a good email address, maybe spam.  Over the last year or more I have received many many emails wanting me to respond in some way.  Most all source email addresses have all been bogus and the email shown as the addressee is not mine.  In looking at the properties of the email my name shows in a long list!

There is a legit AT&T email going around that is about setting password recovery options.  However there is also one going around saying peoples accounts need to be updated before a certain date or else they'll be nuked.  That one is a scam.

But any self-respecting scammer should have seen the legit one by now and decided, hey, people are saying this one is legit so let's piggy back on that and put out emails that mirror the legit one but still are PHISHING scams.  Haven't seen any solid proof of that yet, but it's sure a possibility.

If you could post the raw message view of the email we should be able to tell what you've got.

After I made my entry, I saw the many many comments on the subject.  My entry can be locked as not relevent. But the initial email could have been prepared to not look like spam.

I'm not sure your question is irrelevant, at least not before seeing exactly what you got.

I'm no longer comfortable telling people that one is fine just by the subject for the reason I stated previously.

The nightmare continues.  I just went to my Profile and it has apparently changed and looks nothing like what I had before.  There is no place where it shows "Password Recovery Options" anymore.  It doesn't show my email, doesn't give a place for a phone number (which I keep saying that I do NOT have an AT&T mobile number).  There used to be a page that showed that at least my email was verified, and that does not exist now.  I hope AT&T is having a good laugh at our expense.  Because they surely do not care one wit about our problems.

I can’t log in to my sbcglobal.net email! When I go onto Yahoo’s website, I log in with that email but then it takes me to att where I have to enter my user ID and password. I’ve made one but it takes me to the att.net email not the sbcglobal.net. I need help! This is so beyond frustrating!
