Email lockout

I am being extorted by AT&T.  I have had Prodigy.net email for many years.  It was never a problem with AT&T, under "Currently," until recently.  One day AT&T/Currently told me it needed to verify my identity and would send a code to a phone number I no longer own.  I called AT&T customer service and explained the situation, and was asked for a new number.  I was then told that the number I provided is not an AT&T number, and they would not send a code to that number.  They would not verify my identity over the phone, even when I volunteered to answer security questions, etc.   It was suggested that if I had an AT&T phone they could send a code and I could get back to mail.  I have a phone, I do not want another one.  I ended up calling my old number and basically begging that person to call me back with the code, which they did, which is how I am here.  If they ask me to verify again I am sunk.  I think the Prodigy servers are under Yahoo, but I cannot get around Currently.com even after clearing cookies and cache, etc.  Any help?  Any suggestions?  None coming from AT&T.

Update:  Today I got hold of a different AT&T rep who directed me to my AT&T Sign In page that listed my old AT&T number and had me change it to my new, but non-AT&T cell phone.  This didn't work as AT&T then stated "Oops, this is not an AT&T phone..." and so I still  couldn't get a verification code.  What did work was to just DELETE my phone and add a different Email address for verification just below the phone number.  I had stupidly used my Prodigy.net email as my verification address!  When I changed this to my Gmail address AT&T dutifully sent a code to my Gmail to use for verification.
