Email locked out, security questions changed.

I have a old  sbcglobal.net email address that I longer use as we are no longer a customer.

Tonight, I got an email that someone had changed the profile information of that account. One email said that my email had changed, and the 2nd was that a secure key was added.

Tried to log in and got a 205 error. Security Questions were ones that I don't recall; probably were changed by whoever's got into the account.

Because I am no longer an AT&T customer, I am not able to contact support as everything requires me to login that account.

However, I still have access to this forum account. I don't know if it's possible for support to check, but both this forum account and the AT&T mail account have the same recovery mail.

If it's not possible to recover the email account, this is fine, then I would hope it gets shut down then.

So looking for some help here. I also should have details like the recovery phone number as well but the intruder may have changed it too.

Thank you for letting us know about the suspicious email you received, and the changes made to your email account, hm11784.

To avoid opening potential spam or scam emails in the future, we recommend reading our article on identifying fake AT&T emails. You'll learn how to spot fake email messages that claim to be from AT&T so that you can take steps to report and delete them.

We also recommend that you do the following to keep your email secure:

Update your contact email.

  1. Go to your myAT&T Profile. Sign in, if asked.
  2. Scroll to Sign-in info and choose Edit for your email.
  3. Follow the prompts to make your updates.
  4. Check your email inbox to verify your email address. Don't see an email? Make sure you check your spam or junk folder.

Set up text messages for password resets.

  1. Go to Profile and sign in with your AT&T Mail address and password.
  2. Select Sign-in info.
  3. Scroll to My linked accounts and select Manage email.
  4. Select Edit user information.
  5. Enter your wireless number and check Use this number to reset your password.
  6. Select Save Changes.
  7. Complete any final steps sent to your wireless number within 24 hours. Text message rates and other charges may apply if you don’t have an AT&T Wireless number. Check with your plan and provider.

Update your security questions and answers.

  1. Go to your myAT&T Profile. Sign in, if asked.
  2. Scroll to Sign-in info and select Change your security questions.
  3. Complete and save your security questions and answers.
