CARE CODE: 205.2 [LU003] Error keeps happening on my account

I keep getting this message from ATT, but I am not logging to the web email multiple times.  i use 3 different devices, 3 two computers and a phone.

Looks like you’ve tried to sign in unsuccessfully too many times. Recover your ID or reset your password to continue.
CARE CODE: 205.2 [LU003]
I think this is a bug in your system.  A previous post a response said the issue was corrected.  It hasn't been corrected.   Is the only resolution changing my password?  I've changed it many times in the past month due to this issue.

Hi All,

I know the 205 error code is a bit maddening, but we're here to explain why it's happening and what you can do to prevent it from occurring. In addition, our internet teams are aware of the problem and working quickly to resolve it.

The culprit?

We are in the age where everything is online and there are those out there taking advantage of that. These bad actors are trying to get into everything and anything like your emails, where this useful information is found. I wish it was something AT&T could control with a switch but at the end of the day, it is a bad actor on the other side of the keyboard. I myself fell victim to this when someone got access to one of my streaming accounts.

What AT&T is doing

AT&T Security is investigating this and blocking IP addresses of those bad actors who make these login attempts. We also are locking the accounts to protect your email. You may see alert codes like:

  • Error code 205.2 - you'll have to wait a full  24 hours before resetting your password. Attempting to sign in before the full 24 hours will reset the 24-hour timer.
  • Error code 203.3 or FL002 - you'll have to reach out to our teams directly.

For more information on what you can do, check our What You Can Do section of The Dreaded 205 Error Code. Just scroll down to find it.

It has been happening to me, too, over the past week. Every time I try to access my email on one of my devices, ATT makes me "reset" my password. ATT doesn't even care if I "reset" it to the same password I used before, I just have to go through all those extra steps.

We are here to help with get you back into your email, IronJuke.

This error code means that you have logged into your email to many times and it is now locked.

We suggest that you reset your password, as this may resync your account on our end. We recommend that you wait a full 24 hours after the reset, before you log back in because this will give it time to fully sync.

Let us know if this helps.

The bigger issue here is myself and many other users have to keep resetting our passwords repeatedly.  This never happened until about 2 months back.
I never had to make all of these password resets.

Hi, IronJuke.

We understand how important your email is and we want to help.

This is the best way for you to get this fixed, and we recommend that you wait a full 24 hours after the reset. This will help with resyncing your email.

Let us know if this helps.

I am having the same issue but only when trying to access e-mail on a computer.  It started around the first of October.  E-mail and password work on my tablet and phone just not the computer which is VERY frustrating.  Resetting the password does not resolve the issue.  I've tried.  I have also tried multiple browsers, deleted all cookies and cache files, I even tried the alternate login screen posted in another complaint for the same issue - NOTHING is resolving this issue. My only choice is view e-mail on a very small screen without the convenience of webmail on a computer.

You said " This error code means that you have logged into your email too many times and it is now locked."

How can you log into your email too many times?  I should be able to login into my email as many times a day as I need.  Did you really mean that we've entered our password wrong too many times?  If so, I'll challenge that assumption as well.  I very rarely enter my password wrong as I generally use a password manager.

I just had to reset my password 11 days ago and now I'm already locked out again.  The strange thing is that I can access my email via GMail on my Android phone and I can access it via Thunderbird on my desktop PC but I cannot access it via AT&T's webmail interface.  This problem is on AT&T's end and needs to be fixed.

I suspect what is happening is that someone is trying a brute force hack attempt on these email accounts and your system is locking your customers out instead of dealing with the hackers.  It's either that or gross incompetence on AT&T's part.

Fix this now!  Please!

I have the same problem.  The issue is that as soon as you change your password to a new password on your PC now your phone will be locked out.  Not a big deal because I can just update my phone with the new password.  Nope!!! Now your phone is locked out and you get that Care Code on your phone.  Something is wrong on the AT&T email servers!!!  Even if you wait the 24 hours that AT&T says is the fix it WILL NOT WORK!!!  There is NO FIX that the end user can do!  I've tried it all with the same results!

@drusus,

This is exactly the same complaint I have.  Very annoying and I wish AT&T would show they care about their current customers and fix this.  We are AT&T paying customers (fiber internet) and expect them to help us with such issues.
