Can't log into Sbcglobal.net email account

I am not a current ATT customer, but do have an Sbcglobal.net email account. I cannot log in as it asks for my ATT ID and I can't find a way to log in with my email and password from a web browser. It seems like an endless loop asking me to log into my ATT account. Can you help?

Let's get you back into your email, @Slivingston

If you're looking to recover your free sbcglobal email, your best bet is to try resetting your password online and then waiting 72 hours for the information to completely re-sync.

At this time, we are unable to assist with manually resetting email passwords. Our engineers are aware of the problem though and it is still being investigated. We appreciate your patience with us in the meantime.

Please don't hesitate to let us know if you have any other questions or concerns and we'll be more than happy to help. Thanks for reaching out on the AT&T Community Forums.

I can't log in on the "Sign In" page. I tried too many times and have CARE CODE: 201 [LU100]. How do I get this unlocked? Can I talk with a live person?

Hi, Slivingston.

As Raiden stated, before you try to sign in again, you'll need to wait at least 72 hours from the last time you tried to sign in.

You can call our Customer Support team at 800-288-2020 to speak with a representative, but since we're unable to reset passwords right now, they may not be able to unlock your email.

Thank you again for contacting the AT&T Community Forums team.

I also cannot access my email.  Evidently, there was a breach and AT&T disabled all the affected accounts.  They will not reset the email password and I have critical medical and financial data I need access to.  What can I do?

FYI, the help desk said they were unable to help me.  The staff tried to help, but couldn’t.  So I politely asked them to elevate the issue and they promised to call me back but never did.  I am sad to say that this is the 4th time in about 1-2 years that my account was disabled and I had to call the help desk.  But this is the first time they said they could not help me.

I'm moving this thread to the Email forum.

@metcalfal  Technically AT&T didn't disable the accounts, the built-in Yahoo security did when the hackers tried to force their way in.  I suspect your account is old enough that you don't have things like secret questions or a cell number associated with the account so that AT&T can authenticate you as the actual owner, right?

AT&T stopped just blindly handing out temp passwords on 9/1 when someone woke up there and realized what a terrible security risk that was.

This is all just such a disaster.

Regardless of good intentions, I am severely impacted by this.  How do I elevate this to fix this?  Since this has financial impacts on me, I cannot drop this.

Oops.  Just realized that you are not an AT&T employee. Do you know who and how I should elevate this?

You can try to file an FCC complaint by filling out the form HERE.

This will get the FCC to contact the AT&T Office of the President on your behalf.  Once the OoP people get the notice they should respond to it within 24 hrs (sometimes even on weekends).  Once you submit, make sure you're ready to get a call from a number that isn't familiar.  If you miss it your chances of calling back and getting a successful result goes down.

If nothing else you'll at least get a chance to voice your displeasure to someone higher up but recent history indicates that they're sticking to the new policy.
