Cannot log into email

I have had the same account for over 20 years.  For the past two days I have been unable to log into the account.  I tried the reset option but I see that the recovery email is something that is unfamiliar to me.  I tried the security questions and found one of the questions was an option I would never use.  I was unsuccessful in those attempts.  I still have access to my account via my phone.  I have tried other browsers and the results were the same.  Please help.

To get started, we recommend that you clear the cache and cookies from the device you are using. This can assist with the login issues you're experiencing. You can also update your security questions which is helpful in case you forget your password. Also, are you getting an error code when you try to log in to your account?

I have cleared the cache but still no luck.  I tried to recover my ID but that just goes to a blank account and not my active email.  I was able to log on to email via desktop a week ago but now no go.  Security questions which I had in a saved file at home are not working.  I can view and send via my IPhone but I cannot log in via the desktop.  Recovery email appears to be to an unknown address.  Is there someone I can work with directly.  I have information I need to access and it’s older than what my phone has in memory.
