Cannot log in. Says too many attempts.

I have been trying to log into my email account for 2 days. Says too many attempts, although I've only tried about 5 times each day. My user name and password are correct. I can't log in to change the password. How can I change the password without logging in?

We can help you get signed in to your email, @debsdocs.

Try resetting your password through att.com or the myAT&T app.

Follow these steps from our article on How to Reset your Email Password using myAT&T:

  1. Log in to att.com or the myAT&T app, scroll and select "My plans & features"

  2. Hit the "plus" button next to your service and select "Manage my network & email"

  3. Select "Change Email Password"

Let us know if this helped.

I'm having the same issue which began this week.  I have 3 AT&T email address.  I'm only having the issue with one of the accounts.  I can access the email via the GMail app on my Android phone.  I can access the email via the Thunderbird client on my desktop PC.  But, I cannot access it via the webmail interface (Currently).

I am also unable to login to att.com as suggested above as I get the same error.  If I try to login via the old Yahoo or AT&T sites, they just redirect me to Currently.

This is the error I receive:

Looks like you’ve tried to sign in unsuccessfully too many times. Recover your ID or reset your password to continue.

Care Code: 205.2 [LU003]

There is no way to "recover your ID or reset your password to continue".

I do not want to change my password.  My email has not been compromised.  My password is long and very secure and I don't want to have to remember a new one.  I also don't want to use an AT&T app on my phone.  I want to be able to login to my email via Currently as I normally do and which works very well for my other two AT&T email addresses.

This is another frustrating AT&T email issue and I am unable to get help any other way. AT&T will not help me with email issues as I am currently not a customer of any of their other services.

It makes absolutely no sense that I can access my email just fine with GMail or Thunderbird but not via Currently.  This is clearly an AT&T problem.

Please fix this issue!

We're here to help get your email working correctly, @DC9876

The error message indicates you will need to reset your password to continue. Here is more information on how to reset your email password and this will help resync your account. Scroll down to the I don’t know my password section, and follow the steps.

Other things you can try include:

  • Clearing cache and cookies on your browser to refresh everything.

Useless replies from a robot. Clearly not reading posts. We aren’t stupid, we know how to follow a reset password link. IT IS LOCKED IN A LOOP. I have spent twenty hours minimum trying to fix. 25 year user of Apple products. Not a novice. It will take less time to change all my contacts to gmail than to spend another minute on the phone with att/yahoo/currently/Waste of time

Whatever genius ATT hired to screw up everyone's email needs to GO!!!!!  I'm completely fed up with trying to log in to get my mail and am going to another service!  I'm also thinking of suing ATT for causing me great anxiety and stress (I have MS).  If you think I won't win my case, think again!

Not happy with AT&T.  I finally resolved this without any help from them.  At first, someone with AT&T contacted me behind the scenes of this thread and offered to help but in the end all they were able to do was to refer me to a toll free number that I could never get through on.  I finally ended up resetting my password which I should not have had to do.  But, it took 3 tries to get the reset to take.  It failed the first two times.  Then, I had no choice but to delete my email account from Gmail and set it up again choosing Yahoo as my provider.  That was the only way I could again access my email on my Android phone.  Thunderbird on my desktop PC was an adventure as well.  I couldn't find a way to simply enter a new password.  I had to let Thunderbird try and fail to connect to my account using the old password a couple of times before it finally brought up a new Yahoo login window and allowed me to enter the new password.  I've had so many issues with AT&T email since they forced me onto Yahoo that I may have no choice but to find another provider.  If I have to do so, I will NEVER do any business with AT&T again.  It shouldn't have to be this hard!  And I'm a guy who builds his own computers - yeah let that sink in a bit AT&T!

I too am having similar issues. I suddenly lost my email connection on my Android phone. When I tried to set it up again, I keep getting caught in a loop. Showing "too many unsuccessful login attempts" and then the Care Code 205.2. I have tried different browsers, clearing the cache, logging in from att.com, Currently, all with no success. This is not acceptable. It seems like ATT/Yahoo is deliberately trying to get people to stop using their email. Unfortunately, I have had mine for 20 years and all my accounts are tied to it. Not an easy move to another email provider. And I was paying for my email service. Now I'm on the "free" email (because ATT dropped the service I was paying for) and I've encountered more issues than the previous 20 years combined.  Unless you are hiring 5-yr-olds to do your coding, you have a serious Dev problem (I work for a software company and I know this fix is not that difficult!).

just how many times do I need to reset my password???? You guys have an issue on YOUR end! It keeps sending me same stupid message every two weeks! I have again reset sept. 29th. Today again same message! I know I am not doing anything wrong on my end! I am signing in with correct password. There were NO unsuccessful sign ins! NOT A SINGLE ONE! Only does this when trying to log on from my laptop! Works okay from smartphone. Have to agree with one of the above posters. I think you are trying to get rid of your old ATT email customers. I have also been using this email account for 20 years.

I have been having this same issue for several weeks/months.  I have been resetting my password each time I receive the "too many unsuccessful login attempts...Care Code 205.2" and have been just resetting it to the old password, which works...at least on the browser site for 2 weeks and then I get the same message again.  When I reset password on the browser using the same password that I have had, I lose connection on my iPhone and get the same silly error message (which is crazy since the password has not actually changed.)  We have 3 different emails associated with our one account.  The frustrating thing is that my wife and I share one of the email addresses, so everytime one of us resets password on our phones or on a browser, we get the error message.

As others have stated, we have been using this same AT&T email address for MANY years.   This needs to be fixed!!!!
