Cannot access old pacbell.net account
I have had this pacbell.net account since the dawn of emails, when email addresses were limited to 8 characters. Pacbell became sbc-global which became att which became yahoo. Someplace along the way, two security questions were added by some system (the answers to which I do not know), and recently, the password stopped working. The password reset mechanism sends to the account I cannot access, and the alternative mechanism requires answering the two security questions. Yahoo customer service says to contact att customer service which says they cannot help.
So, I am basically trying to regain access to this account by an alternative process, which I hope you can explain to me.
I am willing to pay for a recovery service if it comes to that.

Since you have followed the password reset flow already, we are going to skip that part. In order to move forward, you will see chat icon, next to bell icon, in the upper right part of this thread, next to your forums profile icon.
