Can get email to work on my MAC (using Apple Mail or Outlook), but my mail works fine on my iPad, iPhone.....HELP!

Per the subject line, I changed my password for my sbcglobal.net email account. After trying to update my mail clients, I can get my mail directly on yahoo.com or att.net.....I can get my mail on my iPhone and iPad....but I cant get my mail on my MAC using either Apple Mail or Outlook.

When I try to set up the account on my MAC, I get taken to the yahoo mail screen...I enter my USERID which is my sbcglobal.net email....then I get routed to an ATT page where I enter my USERID again....at this point, the screen stalls, never asks me for my password, then disappears after 5 mins due to inactivity.

What is happening? Help.... I need to get my sbcglobal.net mail on Apple Mail with the rest of my email accounts.

Please help.

We're here to help you with accessing your email from your computer, @antonioviana!

We recommend starting by clearing your cache and cookies. This can help to refresh your browser and potentially alleviate anything that may be preventing the webpages from loading. Follow the steps below if you have a PC running Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer, or Edge:

  1. Open your browser.
  2. Press Ctrl+Shift+Delete.
  3. Select the items you want to clear.
  4. Select the Delete, OK, Clear, or Clear data button, depending on your browser type.
  5. Close and reopen your browser.

In addition to that, you may need to try using a different browser.

If you haven't already, you'll also want to try using Currently to access your email. Since it's supported by AT&T, this can minimize any outside influences that may be giving you trouble with your email.

Let us know how it goes!

the same symptoms are occurring when I try to update a password or add a Yahoo/ATT email account in Apple Mail. "I enter my USERID which is my att.net email....then I get routed to an ATT page where I enter my USERID again....at this point, the screen stalls, never asks me for my password.

My Apple mail had been working fine with my Yahoo/ATT email account until I recently changed the email password, necessitating me to update the Yahoo/ATT email password in Apple Mail.

clearing cache and cookies did not alleviate the issue. and I don't understand why the browser type matters when I'm trying to update through Apple Mail, not a browser.  thanks.

Thanks for coming back, @magslg3net. We appreicate it. We are so sorry that we took you in the wrong direction. Let's circle back to a couple things.

When it comes to using an email client, such as Apple Mail or Outlook, there have been some enhancements. The first enhancement we would like to talk about is OAuth. OAuth is a username and password authentication process that connects itself and redirects the log in to Yahoo as its server source. For Apple Mail, OAuth will be the process that you take to reconnect the Apple Mail email client. Here is a recommendation guide to help you.

  1. Delete the Account out of Apple Mail.
  2. Close the program down.
  3. Reopen the program.
  4. Re-add the account using Yahoo. Your username is your full email address. Your password is the password that you just reset.

This should reconnect Apple Maill and your emails should redownload.

The other process that we would like to take about is what is called a Secure Mail Key.

A Secure Mail Key is like your password, but it can't be reset. It only can be created and deleted on your email profile. Here is how you create your secure mail key:

  1. Go to your myAT&T Profile. Sign in, if asked.
  2. Scroll to My linked accounts, select the email account that needs a secure mail key.
  3. Scroll to Secure mail key, select Manage secure mail key.
  4. Choose the email address that you’d like to use, if you have more than one.
  5. Select Add secure mail key. Enter a nickname for the secure mail key to make it easy to recognize.
  6. Choose Create secure mail key.
  7. Select Copy secure mail key to clipboard. Make a note of your secure mail key  for further updates.
    • For security purposes, the secure mail key only displays until you select OK
    • If you lose or forget the secure mail key, you can always create new secure mail keys.
  8. Select OK.
  9. Go to your preferred email app, replace the existing password with your secure mail key. For an IMAP account, delete the existing password for both the IMAP and SMTP servers. Replace them with your secure mail key.

Now the reason why we are including this option is, that we have changed to IMAP. IMAP is more secure form of emailing from email clients. Here are the steps to add the secure mail key to your Outlook client:

  1. Open Outlook, select File, then Add Account.
  2. Choose Manual setup or additional server types.
  3. Select  IMAP.
  4. Fill in your user details.
    • Enter your name as you want it to display to others.
    • Enter your full AT&T mail address.
  5. Enter the server information.
    • Account Type - Select IMAP
    • Incoming mail server - Enter imap.mail.att.net (IMAP).
    • Outgoing mail server - Enter smtp.mail.att.net (IMAP).
  6. Fill out the logon information:
    • User Name - Enter your full email address.
    • Password - Enter or paste your secure mail key.
    • Check Remember password and Require logon using Secure Password Authentication.
  7. Select More Settings.
  8. Complete Outgoing Server info.
    • Check My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication.
    • Select Use same settings as my incoming mail server.
  9. Complete Advanced info.
    • Incoming server - Enter 993 (IMAP).
    • Use the following type of encrypted connection - Choose SSL.
    • Outgoing server - Enter 465 (IMAP).
    • Use the following type of encrypted connection - Choose SSL.
  10. Select OK and then Next. Outlook will test your account info. If everything passes, select Finish.

This should get your email clients back up and working again. Please try these steps and let us know.

Using a 'secure mail key' on my ATT email accounts as the new password allowed me to add the ATT/Yahoo email accounts back to Apple Mail on my Macbook Pro. After I created the secure mail key, I followed these ATT instructions on how to set up ATT Mail on Mac OS mail.

thanks Matthew for directing me to a solution.

I am having the same issue as above. Had to change my AT&T (Yahoo) email password. I tried to update the password on my Mac but it redirects me to AT&T. When I enter my UserID it never progresses to the password screen and times out. I deleted the account and tried to re-add the account using the Yahoo option but still cannot get past the AT&T UserID screen. I set up a secure email key and tried to set up the account using the "other account" option. I enter my UserID and the secure email key and it tells me my account already exists. My email works fine on my iPhone and IPad. Not sure what else to do to get if functional on my Mac desktop.
