at&t email keeps logging me out when i do anything else or away. i saw the clear cache/cookies advice, but it is on all 4 devices i have. i check the 'keep me logged in' option everytime. it doesnt matter.
so this has been happening to me too for the last several months. I have gone through all of their suggested steps, and changed my password probably about 4 times. Someone keeps trying to hack into my account. I have 2fa on, so I know they won't get in, BUT I'm tired of having to change my password, or deal with multiple login attempts every time I try to open my email. I'm just trying to check my security and account activity to make sure there isn't anything wrong. Seems like their security and website engineering needs a lot of work. If it's not fixed, I'll just delete my account. I don't want to go through changing all of my subs but if they aren't going to recognize the problem, then why bother using the service.
I would like to suggest to this group that we initiate a (Edited per community guidelines) for theft of personal information and go after AT & T for lying and cutting off communications for decades-long users with NO WARNING. I have documents that I need to print out for an organization that volunteer for that I can no longer access. I have other important documents that I have filed in folders that I NEED! How is this not theft? They cut me off today and wouldn't even give me a couple of hours to access important docs. Just talking about "bad actors" among the other excuses. This is WRONG and I believe we would be able to regain our email, which belongs to US. I would be willing to find legal help to get us started. Is there anyone who is with me on this?
And what contract would that be? I had landline service with AT&T until about seven years ago, but nothing was sent to me about taking away my email. I have no contract.
So I have decided to just get another email provider and move all of my contacts there. Now I get "I have used up all of my attempts to login. If I change the password, I can get one crack at my email, but the very next time I try to sign in I get ...I have used up all of my attempts, try back later
AT&T has taken up enough of my time. Good luck people
First of all, it is doubtful that ATT has intentionally cut you off from access to your email account contents. Based on the number of posts on this forum regarding this issue, it appears to be a randomly occurring technical issue that has caused temporary access problems. Many have been resolved, but sadly not all. ATT, or any other provider for that matter, does not have a legal obligation to provide you with continued access to a free email account in perpetuity.
Secondly, regarding your interest in seeking legal action against a company that offers this free service, please read the following excerpt from the ATT Terms of Service agreement to which we all agree when using any service provided by ATT. Pay particular attention to the last sentence. Basically, we are at their mercy, perhaps barring a deliberate intent to do us harm. Good luck finding an attorney.
"22. TERMINATION/SUSPENSION
You agree that AT&T may immediately terminate or suspend your account, any associated email address, and access to all or any part of the Sites or change your password without notice. Cause for such termination, suspension or change shall include, but not be limited to, (a) breaches or violations of these Terms or other incorporated agreements or guidelines, (b) requests by law enforcement or other government agencies, (c) a request by you (self-initiated account deletions), (d) discontinuance or material modification to the Sites (or any part thereof,) (e) unexpected technical or security issues or problems, (f) extended periods of inactivity, and/or (g) engagement by you in fraudulent or illegal activities. Termination of your account includes (or, if AT&T elects instead to suspend your account, may include any one or more of the following) (a) removal of access to all offerings within the Sites, (b) deletion of your password and all related information, files and other content associated with or inside your account (or any part thereof) and (c) barring of further use of the Sites. You agree that all terminations and suspensions for cause shall be made in AT&T's sole discretion and that AT&T shall not be liable to you or any third party for any termination or suspension of your account, loss of storage, any associated email address, or access to the Sites. Further, AT&T reserves the right, to immediately terminate or suspend your account, any associated email address, and access to the Sites at any time for any reason and without notice to you in its sole discretion."
I would like just a few hours to find my main contacts and other documents that I have filed that need to be printed out. I may have agreed to the statement above, but at least AT&T could have warned me. I am a former executive employee of Illinois Bell and Verizon Wireless, and know the power of the company and what it can/will do. All I want at this point is a few documents and contact info. The customer service person yesterday cut off my cell phone service AS WE WERE SPEAKING and while she was supposedly sending me a temp password. There must be a place to go get this corrected.

@Carol_Scherf
You can try but your contract with AT&T limits your legal options to binding arbitration.
