Accessing an old AT&T email without login/password

I cannot remember for sure if i am using the correct email address to login to my old ATT email...so I tried to reset the password, but I also do not have the correct security questions.  (account was locked out due to trying too many times) I touched base with AT&T and they sent me a link to a form to fill out to be able to access that email and change the password.  The form was not received, and now when I try to verbally give the email address associated with the acct that I thought I had already given, my account is not found??  Now what???

We're happy to help get you back into your email, @mailfriend2023

Due to improved security of the AT&T mail, you will need to create a secure mail key to access your email account from a mobile device. To create a secure mail key:

  1. Sign in to myAT&T, go to profile and choose sign-in info.
  2. Select the email account that needs a secure mail key. (You’ll find a menu at the top if you have multiple accounts.)
  3. Scroll to secure mail key and select manage secure mail key.
  4. Choose the email address that you’d like to use, if you have more than one.
  5. Select Add secure mail key and then enter a nickname for the secure mail key to make it easier to recognize.
  6. Choose Create secure mail key.
  7. Select Copy secure mail key to clipboard. Make a note of your secure mail key, so you have it handy if you need to update an email app on several devices.
    • For security purposes, the secure mail key only displays until you select OK
    • If you lose or forget the secure mail key, you can create new secure mail keys.
  8. Select OK.
  9. Go to your preferred email app and replace the existing password with your secure mail key. For an IMAP account, delete the existing password for both the IMAP and SMTP servers and replace them with your secure mail key.

Let us know if this works for you or if you need further assistance.

AshR,

Umm...is the login they are asking for the same login I would use to access my email?  I do not have an AT&T account anymore as I have not used my email or their services in years.

SO now what do I do?

We hear you, and are happy to assist with this @mailfriend2023,

Let's try to recover your user ID. Here’s what to do:

  1. Go to the Forgot ID page.
  2. Enter the email you provided when you set up your ID.
  3. Follow the prompts.

FYI: If you don’t remember what email you used, choose Forgot contact email. If you have more than one ID with the same contact email, your Forgot ID email will list them all.

Once you recover your user ID, please try to reset your password. Here’s what to do:

  1. Go to reset your password.
  2. Enter your user ID and the last name associated with your ID.
  3. Choose your verification method and follow the prompts.
  4. Enter and confirm your new password.

For more information please visit our website about changing or resetting your sign-in password & accounts and user IDs.

Let us know if this helps.

so, when I go to the login screen and choose "forgot ID" it asks for the contact email I used when I set up the account;  if I choose the email I am trying to get into, it wants to send  a code...that is the email I cannot get into and why I started this conversation to begin with!?!?  SO, now what?

Thank you for letting us know @mailfriend2023. We hear you, let's team up and, change this experience for you.

Please note: Due to enhance security of AT&T Mail, you’ll have to use either OAuth or a secure mail key to get your email through an app. This encrypts your username and password to protect your information from hackers and fraudsters.

What you're experiencing with your email is part of a known issue, and we're working to resolve this as soon as possible. We encourage you to review our Forums post all about Care Code: 205.2, which includes workarounds and causes.

We recommend that you try creating a new email account, so that you can have access to email while we try to resolve this.

Here are the steps:

  1. Go to http://sm.att.com/e05b5109 and select Sign In.
  2. Choose Create AT&T Account.
  3. Enter your wireless number and ZIP Code. We'll text you a confirmation code.
  4. Enter the code and select Continue.
  5. Complete the info to create your new AT&T email address and password.
  6. Enter your profile info and security questions and answers.
  7. Follow the prompts to verify your account.
  8. Print or copy your email address, password, and security questions info, in case you forget your password.
  9. Select Continue when you see the confirmation page.

SO, forum, thank you for reaching out as many times as you have, BUT i don;'t think there is understanding in what I am trying to do:

I do not have a current account or phone # to enter into any areas to try to find my login ID, password or anything...SOOOO, there was a ticket placed to have ATT call me today about all this, but so far no call...I do not remember what contact email I used;  I have tried to enter what I thought I would use and not found...the email acct was locked due to suspicious activity recently, but it was not suspicious, it was my son trying to login into it too many times.

I am at a loss, and frustrated!
