What happens to sbcglobal.net emails after I close my AT&T account?

Hi -

I have an sbcglobal.net email that I still receive some some emails to. It was my main email account and I really have no way to determine who out there may still have it as my only contact information.

I am closing my AT&T internet and uverse accounts. Can I still receive those sbcglobal.net emails after I close these accounts? Is there a way to forward them to my Gmail account even after these accounts are closed?

Thanks for any help -

John

It converts to a free email account. You will not lose access to your email.

As long as your AT&T Account is closed in good standing (no unreturned equipment, no unpaid balance), your e-mail address will convert to an AT&T "Free E-mail" account.  However, it has an ever lower standard of Customer Support than the e-mail support for a paid account (if that's even possible).

Hi there, oconnorweb. That is a great question about what happens when you cancel your services and email. We can help you with that.

We are sorry to see you go. Since you have a sbcglobal.net email address you have been us for such a long time.

AT&T offers before a paid subscriber option and free subscriber option, when it comes to email. As you have stated, you are canceling your Internet, so you are already a paid subscriber. Now you want to be switched to the free subscriber option. That is not a problem. You can keep your email address.

The answer to your question about email forwarding to another account, you can do that, but you can only forward the individual emails and not the inbox as a whole.

Again, we are sorry to see you go, but we do hope that you will return, in the future.

Thank you for posting on the AT&T Community Forums.

BTW, g-mail provides a service for changing to a g-mail account where they will retrieve messages from an old e-mail account for you for a limited period of time and (if I'm not mistaken) will also optionally send an autoreply to any sender telling them about your new address.  It's not forwarding, but the result to you is the same.
