PuTTY and pop3

what is the proper way to connect to inbound.att.net to attempt to delete a bad message? when  I try open inbound.att.net 995 I get an error message disconnected from server. PuTTY works on other pop3 servers on port 110 without issue. is there some special  way to get to att.net?  I tried port 110 as well but it only lets me connect and i can type user pass stat etc but get no response back.
