How do I unmerge AT&T and Yahoo email accounts?

Split.png

You may have been notified that your E-mail account is about to get unmerged. You may have had a merged account where your AT&T E-mail and Yahoo E-mail were merged into a single account, which allowed the password and inboxes to be shared.

If you are not sure if you have a merged account, it is likely you have one if:

  • You can sign in to your merged E-mail account using either you AT&T or your Yahoo E-mail address.
  • You can sign in to myA&T with either your AT&T or Yahoo E-mail addresses.
  • You use the same password for both AT&T and Yahoo E-mail accounts.
  • Your mailbox receives messages from both your AT&T and Yahoo E-mail address.
  • When you reset the password, it changes the password on both Yahoo and AT&T accounts.
  • When trying to reset your Yahoo password, it redirects you to myAT&T.

What is Happening?
Beginning mid-November 2017, you will no longer be able to sign in to myAT&T or att.net with your Yahoo ID.
Beginning early December 2017, all merged email accounts will be separated into two separate email accounts.

What does this mean to you?

Beginning in mid-November 2017, you will need to start using your AT&T email address to sign in to myAT&T instead of your Yahoo email address.

  • To access your AT&T account in myAT&T, you’ll need to sign in using your AT&T email address. (Don’t worry, we’ll tell you what it is if you try to sign in with your Yahoo email address.)
  • To access your AT&T email account through att.net, you’ll need to use your AT&T email address through currently.att.yahoo.com and clicking on the mail icon at the top. (Again, we’ll tell you what it is if you try to sign in with your Yahoo email address.)

You’ll need to start signing in to your AT&T and Yahoo email accounts separately since you will now have two unique accounts.

  • The passwords will not change until you decide to change them.
  • Your AT&T E-mail account will be empty. This includes E-mails, contacts, calendar, information associated with Yahoo sites (Yahoo Sports, Yahoo Groups, Tumblr, finance portfolios). All of this information will be on your Yahoo E-mail account.
  • Your Yahoo E-mail password can be managed through the Yahoo Member Center.

What about my Sub-accounts?

  • All Yahoo accounts will become stand alone accounts.
  • Just like the parent accounts, any subaccounts that were linked to a yahoo account, the AT&T E-mail account will be empty and all the E-mails, contacts, and other things will be stay with the Yahoo account.
  • The AT&T subaccounts will still be subaccounts under the primary AT&T E-mail account.

What about my E-mails, Contacts, and Folders

  • Your E-mails, Contacts, and Folders for your merged accounts will be available when you login with your YahooID.
  • For your Yahoo E-mail, Contacts, and Folder issues, please reach out to Yahoo.
    • If you are getting an AT&T error message or not seeing your E-mails, Contacts, or Folders, such as a terminated account, try clearing your cache and cookies or using a different browser. Make sure you are logging in with your @yahoo.com account at mail.yahoo.com.
    • You can reset your password by selecting forgot password.
    • If you are missing E-mails, you can recover your E-mail at this site.

Not able to Sign In

  • Yahoo E-mail - Please contact Yahoo, as we no longer have access to Yahoo accounts.
  • AT&T - Getting incorrect password? Go to our help article to get back into your account.
    • Suspended / Inactive / Error 550.5.2.1 - Accounts were disabled from inactivity during the unmerge. To fix this, try to sign in and after 48 hours, your E-mail account will become active again.
    • Getting redirected to Yahoo site - Clear your cache and cookies or try using a different browser. Make sure you are logging into the right site. Go to currently.com and click on the mail icon at the top-right.

I have an @sbcglobal.net email account that has lost important emails that I have saved.  The emails have disappeared along with all my sub accounts.  This happened within the last few days.  Now I am reading that my ATT account (I do not have an @att.net email account) was unmerged from my yahoo account.  I need to be able to access all my emails from the old account.  How do I retrieve them?  When I sign into yahoo.com using the @sbcglobal.net email sign on and password, I am able to get in, but all the emails I need along with the sub accounts are missing.

I am getting all of my new emails. I had to sign out of email, clear my browser cache, close the browser, restart the browser and go to mail.yahoo.com and log in again with my at&t ID which could include att.net, sbcglobal.net or any of a number of other extensions that belong to the at&t email side of the account. When I did all of this my browser came up with all of the new emails for my at&t email address that were sent after my account was unmerged or separated by the system administrators.  The folders and all of your pre-separation emails for Yahoo and at&t will not be there, though. They and their contents are stuck in Yahoo email.
The long, dreary way to get them into your at&t email account would be to recreate your folder structure in the at&t account, log out and then log into your Yahoo account and proceed to forward each email individually to your at&t account.  Not a pleasing thought if you have a large folder structure built over a period of time but that may be all you can do.  If you set up your email accounts in actual email client software like Outlook, Apple Mail or MS Mail there are likely to be more sophisticated options available and may be worth pursuing.

Hi,
Your folders should show up when you log into the Yahoo side of your account, at least they did for me. Neither your folder structure nor their contents were recreated in your new at&t email account. You will have to manually recreate the folder structure in your at&t email account. Then you will have to forward each and every email you want to access in at&t email from Yahoo email. Otherwise you have to log into both emails to get items from folders, both old and new. Email client software like Outlook, Apple Mail and MS Mail may offer more sophisticated options and would be worth looking into but I have not gone there yet.

I had created multiple folders where I would move e-mails that I wanted to keep.  (Example : emails  for  flight confirmations and  other vacation information)    My Yahoo mail now looks different and my folders file is empty?  What happened to all my folders and can they be recovered?

That's fine if you can log into your yahoo acnt. We never had one. The I'd we use for att mail doesn't work with yahoo. Can't use yahoo recover tools since we never set up any recovery options with yahoo. Really dissapointed with ATT. Kinda like COMCAST

I have several email addresses.  I am unable at the present time to sign into my yahoo.com account on my PC at my home.  I am able to sign into my att.net account.  What do I need to do to be able to access both and I'd like to get them merged and just use one of the accounts.

Good morning. When using my sbcglobal.net email with att.net it opens my mail in yahoo.com. With the pending February separation of ATT and Yahoo can I continue using att.net and be able to get my sbcglobal.net email? Thank you, Tim
