ghosting emails; error 0x80042110 - can only get inbox emails on web server, not Outlook 16

I can only get my incoming emails on my ATT/Yahoo web server.  they do not transfer to my Outlook 16 inbox.  I have confirmed my email account settings for POP3 and SMPT.  nothing works!  This has never happened before in last 6 years!  Please fix my ghosting email problem.  Only ATT/Yahoo can fix it.  Who can I call?  There are 'old' 2007 - 2010 postings about this problem all over the Internet, but none recently.  Very frustrating. Hello @BillKrep,

We understand your concern and are here to assist with your Outlook setup.

You will need to create a Secure Mail Key when setting up your email in Outlook.

Then create the account in Outlook and use that key wherever Outlook asks for a password.

If you still get errors, use these alternate servers instead of the att.com servers.

http://sm.att.com/2aaff6e1  (use Port 993 and SSL/TLS)
http://sm.att.com/465a2f7c  (use Port 465 and SSL/TLS)

Along with that, you can also follow our step-by-step guide on setting up your email in Outlook.

Feel free to reach out for further assistance!

I tried following the above recommendations; some of them are above my skill level.  With no success.

Then, while being in safe mode, I saw the option switch at the top right to switch to a "New Outlook" version which I did. In this new version suddenly all my emails started to download again. This gets me past my immediate short term problem. And I hope this may help some other Outlook users with the same problem. (Note that when I revert to the "Old Outlook" the emails still are not downloading and I still get the same error message.)

However, now I have a new problem:

The "new Outlook" version only downloads my  Inbox up to a year ago.  While using the "Old Outlook" I had a back-up .pst file with all my older email messages. which I was able to open alongside my current .pst file. So far I have not been able to open this secondary .pst file in the"New Outlook".

Suggestions?

Thanks, Irene

not sure what happened, but I couldn't do anything to fix the problem yesterday - transferred webmail inbox to new file folders several times, confirmed all Outlook server settings and secure key, tried a few different POP3 addresses (not the ones you just gave me) , restarted both laptop and desktop several times - and nothing worked.  Got many autoconfirmation emails from Microsoft confirming that server settings were updated - but those emails did not come through to Outlook inbox, they just stayed in webmail inbox.  I was able to send emails to other contacts but couldm't receive any replies in my Outlook inbox - only in the ATT/Yahoo webmail inbox.  I gave up and went to bed - and was prepared thsi morning to call ATT, Yahoo, and Microsoft - and get frustrated by finger pointing re who's responsible for the problem.  Fortunately, I didn't have to make any calls because the problem magically went away - and I have not seen any of the error messages this morning and I am receiving all my incoming mail in Outlook - :) :) .  Halleluja!  I can enjoy my Saturday!

If it happens again, I'll try your suggestions re alternative servers.  I definitely already have the Secure Key set up - so that wasn't the problem.  Do you have any idea how the problem mysteriously disappeared overnnite?

I started to experience the same problem on Saturday. I continue receiving all my emails on my Windows10 laptop and on my Iphone, but stopped receiving emails on my Windows10 PC using Outlook Client. I checked all my server settings and even created a new ATT Secure Mail Key. Nothing worked so far....

I've had a secure mail key for years.  However, I just tried moving the entire inbox to a new folder and that fix worked.  Thanks for your quick follow-up!

@ATTHelp,@steveadams55,

Thanks for the quick responses, but I still have the problem.

I am no expert, so please excuse my ignorance:

I have also had a secure mail key for years.  I tried to follow @steveadams55's solution. I moved all the messages in my Inbox to a new folder called Inboxnew, then tried to delete the original Inbox folder, but the system wouldn't let me.  What am I doing wrong?
