email response spacing

When I hit 'enter' in a responseI I normally get a new line spaced one space below the above line. for example:

Joe,     "enter"

spacing creates a new line with left alignment    "enter"

another new line.....

I can no longer hit "enter" and get a new line.  I have to just continue to type my message on the same line that started with "Joe"
