Announcement: If you received an email to set up password recovery options for your AT&T Mail account, it is the real deal from AT&T. If you find out that you cannot remember your email or password, we have solutions for you below.

Top 3 Email Solutions

Using a client? Can't Sign In? Yahoo.com vs Currently.com
If you are having a hard time using your client, you may need to set up AT&T's New Security Feature to sign-in. You can also check your mail via a browser. Sometimes we forget our passwords and enter the wrong ones. Resetting your password is one of the fastest ways to get back into your account.  If you are routed to AT&T's Sign-in, this is normal. Just use your att.net, sbcglobal.net, or bellsouth.net as normal.
Learn about Oauth and Secure Mail Key and compatible clients Make sure you are using the right ID. Find it now. Still having trouble? Using a different browser or clear cache and cookies

If you are still having issues with loading the login page, go to currently.com and click on the mail icon at the top right.

WebMail and Features Troubleshooting

Heads Up: Using different emails on one browser may cause issues when attempting to sign in. You may need to clear cache and cookies each time you sign into a different email. A fix may be using different browsers for each email like Safari, IE, and Chrome.

Have the right browser

Internet Explorer and/ or a Microsoft Edge browser older than 15.x, you will need to upgrade your browser to a supported browser. If you’re using Firefox, Chrome, and/or a Mac-based browser, just sit back, and relax.

Can you keep your email?

In short, yes you can! Our Free Email FAQs page has more information and things you need to know. Please check out the terms and conditions page for more information.

Email Not Going Where It Is Supposed To?

  • Is Your Email Going Into Spam? Trash? Another Folder? - check the rules in webmail to make sure nothing is set up to forward

  • Hacked Email - If your email account was compromised, rules may have been set up without your knowledge.

  • 3rd Party Browsers - If you are using a 3rd party mailbox like Outlook, disable it to make sure that the mailbox is not causing the issues

  • Check spam. Sometimes email gets routed there in error.
  • Not getting an email from another web service? Sometimes issues on their end can prevent it from making it to us. In some instances, they will need to contact the email provider.
  • Sometimes non-AT&T emails are blocked for spam. If this is done in error, check out our AT&T Postmaster Support page.

Note: Some 3rd party mail apps have been known to cause issues and send mail into trash. We highly recommend discontinuing the use of the app and using the Yahoo Mail App.

3rd Party Mailbox - (Outlook, Apple Mail, Mozilla Thunderbird)

You may need to update your client to work with Oauth. You will find step-by-step solutions on our Client Setup Page. You'll find solutions below for generic client issues:

  • Test using webmail - If you are able to sign in to your email via the web, the issue points to the app or mailbox you are using.

  • Mailboxes - we recommend using the latest version. Updates and changes may prevent it from working properly.

  • Rebuild Mailbox profile - In some instances, rebuilding the profile fixes some issues. You may lose email doing this

  • Change your settings from POP to IMAP

  • Client issues - If you are using POP, you must now use IMAP. There was a recent change, this article will explain further

  • Multiple Email, One Client - Please note, each email requires either a secure key or OAuth to be set up.  Check out Microsoft's support page on how to set up multiple emails
  • Reset your secure key - this has helped resolve issues in the past, especially when signing into another client or troubleshooting your current one.
  • AT&T does not officially support or troubleshoot mailboxes/ clients like Outlook

Note: For those of you using Evolution and having issues sending email, go into setting and find Disable Settings For All POP3 Extensions and select it.

Having trouble with Outlook, check out this thread from one of our community members.

Spellcheck

The spellcheck feature is no longer supported via webmail and now defaults to the browser spell check option.

This solution appears to be out of date. There is now a "secure mail key" (system-generated password) required for email clients that do not support OAuth or OAuth2. The help articles describing how to do this are difficult to find. The server addresses are also different now (imap.mail.att.net and smtp.mail.att.net) and the setup is also different than what is shown here. Can someone from AT&T Cares please update this with accurate information? Thanks!

The regular AT&T site also needs to be updated and information made easier to find, perhaps with more than one way to reach the relevant information. People should not have to guess which subtopic will lead them to the right solution.

https://www.att.com/esupport/article.html#!/email-support/KM1240462 seems the most relevant. This is found under "Email setup & access" under "Setup & Passwords Support", but not under "Troubleshooting" which would seem to be intuitive. Perhaps the info could be linked from more than one place, and also some kind of banner announcing such a significant change would be helpful.

The info found here https://www.att.com/esupport/article.html#!/email-support/KM1010503 under the "Email client setup" tab is not correct. It has no reference to the secure mail key that will be required for Outlook (and seems to be implemented already). The guided setup does reference the secure mail key.

I wasted hours already looking around the site for support.

You have to actually chat or call. Of course, I chatted, representative told me problem more than she could handle and would have someone call me, but as of yet, no call. Still no email.

I had to call AT&T special technical department. Basically, he changed my
ingoing and outgoing back to imap.mail.yahoo.com and smtp.mail.yahoo.com. I
don't use the AT&T yahoo account, but that was working fine. My outlook was
not.

Thank you.  This problem has only gotten worse, I now have no access to my email at all.  I will keep beating my head against the wall with ATT.

I had U-Verse installed at the beginning of April and I still have not had access to my email account. I have spoken with technical support and each person they passed this problem on to has not been able to solve this problem. I am getting the infamous

"We're experiencing some technical difficulties...

We’re sorry, but att.net Mail can't load due to a temporary error. You can try back again shortly, or visit our help pages for ways to troubleshoot the issue.

Temporary error: 2"
after attempting to login to e-mail.

It has not worked since Day1. Does not matter on what device or what browser, same error message. I have worked in this industry my entire life and I have never seen anything like this. Seriously, you guys actually cannot fix this?

Yea. No Email. I have been with ATT for over 10 years. Technical support told me a week ago that they would escalate my problem, and that it would be fixed within 48 hours. When you go to ATT.net, with, or without logging in, the email button sends you to yahoo mail. I would appreciate it if someone would be honest. Your own website is not capable of sending you to your own email server, assuming there even is one yet. We are being forced to either loose a large amount of information, or sign over all our rights to Oath, Verizon, AOL and Yahoo. This is unacceptable.

Also interesting, according to this link:

https://www.att.com/support/article/email-support/KM1240462/

At t will also be implementing OAuth. Here is a little snippet from Wikipedia on OAuth:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OAuth

"In July 2012, Eran Hammer resigned his role of lead author for the OAuth 2.0 project, withdrew from the IETF working group, and removed his name from the specification. Hammer pointed to a conflict between the web and enterprise cultures, citing the IETF as a community that is "all about enterprise use cases", that is "not capable of simple." What is now offered is a blueprint for an authorization protocol, he says, and "that is the enterprise way", providing a "whole new frontier to sell consulting services and integration solutions."[28]

In comparing OAuth 2.0 with 1.0, Hammer points out that it has become "more complex, less inoperable, less useful, more incomplete, and most importantly, less secure." He explains how architectural changes for 2.0 unbound tokens from clients, removed all signatures and cryptography at a protocol level and added expiring tokens (because tokens couldn't be revoked) while complicating the processing of authorization. Numerous items were left unspecified or unlimited in the specification because "as has been the nature of this working group, no issue is too small to get stuck on or leave open for each implementation to decide."[28]

Hammer later gave a presentation elaborating on his views.[29]

David Recordon later also removed his name from the specifications for unspecified reasons.Mr. Hardt took over the editor role, and the framework was published in October 2012.[10]"

Call me a conspiracy theorist if you want, but OAuth is all about making personal information available for use by third parties.(read the whole Wikipedia page, and checkout yahoo mails terms and conditions under OAuth.

Also, according to the first link, if you are using windows, you can only use an email client with Oauth if you are using Windows 10. You can use a key for some other clients, but its a little vague. So, this is all about security?
