email connection keeps timing out
After logging in to my AT&T sbcglobal.net account, it times out after about an hour (and doesn't save a draft of the email I was typing). This has been going on for over a week. I've tried different browsers, I've checked the box "Keep me signed in" -- I'm stumped. Any ideas on how to solve this???

Hi Tonydi -- That red dot didn't appear until 8:30 this morning -- it took THAT LONG for someone at AT&T to Direct Message me. Thanks for responding!

I hope it was worth the wait, although I'm not optimistic that much will come of it since there doesn't appear to be an ongoing fix.

WEll, my email appears to be completely fixed since they re- synced mine.
I am almost afraid to change my password since it is working right now! ha!

I have had a bellsouth.net address for business for 20+ years; in June I also started having the time-out issues and another message related to too many log-ins, we are freezing you out of your account. The only "solution" I have ever received from ATT is to only have my email up on one computer (impossible - I have a phone and two computers so that I can work). But I tried it anyway and still had the same issues.
They will not admit they did anything but ATT clearly changed something that is giving many of us a major problem. They also want us to "DM" with them so that the world cannot see what their customer service is like these days. So does ATT just want all of us to go away? Is that their solution?

Thanks for sharing your story... I tried the direct message route, and no one has finished getting back to me after initially responding; they certainly have not re-sync-ed my account. I'm this close to using my Gmail account for everything -- which means moving all of my folders of saved emails over... and changing all of my subscriptions to various places to the Gmail account. A lot of work... I'm so frustrated with AT&T...

I would move to Gmail; however, attempting to transfer the folders/files from bellsouth.net is extremely time-consuming. Last year I moved a folder to dropbox - the ATT platform required me to do it email by email. For one business folder it took hours of mind-numbing time. Even if I just transferred 7 years I cannot imagine how long it would take.
ATT business model is tragic. If you call them, someone overseas will tell you how sorry they are you are having problems but will not be able to provide any assistance. It's clear they are no longer interested in providing customer service.

Hi all,
It's been maybe 2-3 weeks since my last communication, because I have no good news to share, sorry.
My instructions from DM were, to quote: "Hi! If you are able to access an email client, such as Windows Mail or Outlook, let's have you set up a secure mail key then set up your email with that program to see if this helps. You can view this article to create a secure mail key: http://sm.att.com/55dc1834 You can view this article to view the steps that are needed to set up your email with an email client: http://sm.att.com/c5dc2ed3 Let me know if this helps!". I did some reading to learn what a secure mail key is, and it quickly got too complex and too technical for me. Maybe 10 years ago I would have been up to the challenge. I got/get the distinct impression that if I were to mess it up, I would risk complete access to my email, so rather than take the risk I decided to live with the timeouts and logout/login headaches. In the meantime I will start preparing to switch over to TBD email provider. This is too frustrating and I just don't have the energy for this. Good luck though to all who are up for the challenge! PS - they never offered to re-synch my email, not sure why.

Too funny (not), my email timed out on me while I was writing my last entry ... wow. Not very forgiving.

Thanks, everyone, and yes, I've been researching the best ways to move my email file folders over to Gmail, found some good instruction videos on Youtube :)

all the problems mentioned here i have experienced , i am also using currently.com to login as suggested with the same timeout results all here are complaining with and on different browsers so we all are convinced the issue is not ours but provider owned whether they admit it or not . i did get an explanation from a live USA tech when i was locked out completely. The tech told me that the timeout issue was with Yahoo, that AT&T contracts Yahoo to have the AT&T email service pass through Yahoo servers ... sooo my guess is that Yahoo servers are hitting capacity and rather than expand they are timing us out. The AT&T tech said that the issue had been escalated to Yahoo but we all can see that there is no action being taken , we will have to put up with it or change our provider for email services. If AT&T can't or won't get action there's no way we as customers are going to get any action. As far as us leaving .... they don't seem to care!!
