Using Mail with Apple Mail
I had to get a new email address when the tech installed U-Verse. I set up a new email account in Apple Mail using the information given me by a chat tech. I was told to use a POP account and add my user mail and password and for outgoing server -- outbound.att.net with SSL checked and password authetication and 995 for the port. For incoming server I was told to use inbound.att.net with SSL checked, password authetication and 4655 for the port.
I cannot receive any mail. If I go to the att site I can see all the test messages I sent to that account so the account is good -- but they will not download to Apple Mail.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks

You should do this by selecting the account type OTHER and then entering your att.net information, but enter your email address incorrectly, like one letter off. This will cause the account creation to fail. At that point you will see an option for POP or IMAP. Select POP. Then correct your address, use the inbound/outbound servers as you described, and you should be done. I did not have to enter any port or authentication information.
This worked perfectly on three iOS devices for me.

Yes I clicked on More, entered my email address and password and it said Account Needs to be Set Up Manually. I select POP and entered all of the server information. I can go to Yahoo and my mail bix has test mails I sent it -- they just don't download to Apple Mail

Hi,
You can use alternate servers for your AT&T email address on your Mac mail. I recommend that you start over and select IMAP and use the following info:
imap.mail.att.net / 993
smtp.mail.att.net / 465 or 587
SSL is required for both. Username is your full email address. Authentication for outbound server is Password.

This is weird. I just went to add a new account, put in my email address and password selected OTHER and it set up automatically as an IMAP account with the settings you outlined. After having done this scores of times it now works -- go figure.

Be sure to go into settings on your phone and ensure that the account you are not seeing Mail on is active and is syncing mail.

Yes but I never got the opportunity to select IMAP or POP -- I just entered the email address and password. When I was doing this before after entering the email address and password I got a message telling me that the account needed to be set up manually. That is when I had the opportunity to select IMAP or POP. No idea why this time it did it automatically and many tries before it didn't and I had to select POP and input all the server information (which was correct as it was from an at&t tech) but it wouldn't download any emails.
Anyway it's working now.
