Upgrading your Browser from IE11
To continue enjoying and maximizing your att.net email experience, we ask that you please upgrade to a new web browser. In the near future, Internet Explorer 11 will no longer be supported, therefore we ask that you upgrade to the latest Firefox or Chrome Browser. If you opt to continue using your existing Internet Explorer web browser your mail experience will revert to AT&T’s ‘Basic Mail’.

Amen to dumping Yahoo!!! Can we just upgrade to the browser on Windows 10? Why are we being advised by an employee (?) of AT&T personally but not AT&T officially?

Huh? Not sure what made you think that or mistook some statements of fact. Yahoo as the att email service provider, subject o OATHs terms of service and nothing is going to change that for the foreseeable future.
Officially? Here's as official as it going to get. If you don't like those browsers use any other browser you like. No one is stopping you except that using browsers other than the "supported" browsers will cause the webmail to display the basic/classic layout. And if you can live with the limitations classic imposes over the full layout, fine, have at it.
