Unable to reset password, last name requirement does not work

I'm unable to access my att.net email, getting the following message "Looks like you’ve tried to sign in unsuccessfully too many times. Recover your ID or reset your password to continue. CARE CODE: 205.2 [LU003]"

The problem is my last name on this account is only one character long.
When trying to reset password it says my last name must be 2 or more characters so it can't be changed.

We are here to help with your email, bubuloo.

Here is more information on how to reset your email password.

We suggest that you reset the password and wait a full 72 hours so that it resyncs your account.

Let us know if this helps.

Thank you for the reply Marc.
But the problem is I can't reset my password.

If I go to this page -> https://identity.att.com/identity-ui/fpwd/lander
I am prompted to enter the last name.
This page says last name must be between 2 and 50 characters.

However, the last name on my email account is only one character long. Therefore I cannot proceed with the password reset.

Thanks Marc,

One of two things would fix the issue:
Either modify the password reset page (https://identity.att.com/identity-ui/fpwd/lander) to allow a last name of 1 character

or can someone at AT&T change the last name on my email account to be longer than 1 character in length?

Thanks a bunch.

Hi mcollpa,

Around 2 years ago ATT changed the process of resetting passwords requiring the last name be longer than 2 characters but didn't think about those of us who had a last name of only one character.

I found a way to bypass the last name is one character issue.

Go to the "forgot password" page.
1 When asked for last name enter anything that is two characters long.
2 You will get a message saying the info is incorrect.

Keep repeating this process until it gives you another option to change the password.

I was eventually able to change my password and my last name to something longer than 1 character in length.

See bubuloo's helpful comment below from 4/25/2022. However, I was helped by calling the AT&T support phone line: 1-800-288-2020. They sent a temporary password to the external email account that was linked in my profile to the @att account. Then we didn't have to worry about number of characters in the last name on the account
