sbcglobal.net :unable to open server connection
Hello,
i have a user with an sbcglobal account and he gets the error message in the title. We have checked the wireless connection on his kindle and it connects properly, we also checked the device and it has no issues.
I just checked the settings again and used these for the IMAP configuration and still no changes .
- Inbound server – mail.att.net
- Port – 993
- SMTP server –mail.att.net
- Port – 465 or 587
- SSL required – Yes
As I was refreshing the inbox, couple emails were delivered and now it went back to giving the error message. The other programs on his device connect to the internet without issues but when he tries to access the email , he gets the error more times than not.
Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Are those actually the server names you see? Or is that just a typo in your post (twice!)? Because the servers you should be using are specified here. Also as mentioned in that article I referenced it is recommended using a secure mail key in place of the password in email client apps.

Thank you for the quick response. It is a typo i copied it from here https://contactsupportdesk.com/blog/fix-unable-connect-server-error-sbcglobal-email/ but in the device, it is imap.mail.att.net and smtp.mail.att.net
Once the user is back, I can get his sbcglobal account information and try that option I am hoping that would resolve the issue.

Should also verify that the webmail works too. Go to the att home/portal page, start.att.net, click the mail icon in the upper right and see if the login works. If so whether you can send a message to yourself.
Also while it doesn't make sense on the surface, try changing the account password (e.g., Forgot ID/Password). Sometimes that fixes problems with legacy accounts (hence the announcement at the top right of this page). Of course once you change the password you would have to change the client password setting as well. But if you use the secure mail key instead you have to get in there anyhow to do that too.

Some of the Common Reasons for ‘SBCGlobal Email Not Working’ Are
1. The poor internet connection
2. The inappropriate browser settings
3. Interruption from the antivirus or antispyware software
4. The faulty add-ons on your browser
5. The SBCGlobal Server is down
6. Outdated browser
7. Incorrect date and time settings on the computer
8. Proxy servers
9. Issues with iPhone settings
10. Incorrect log-in credentials
11. The wrong email settings on Android or other email services like Outlook and Gmail

Is your end user using outlook? You may have to use a secure email key. See: https://www.att.com/support/article/email-support/KM124046
