Sbcglobal.net email not working in Apple mail

My Apple email program on my idevices keeps saying my email username or password is incorrect, even though I can access my email with my current password in Safari. I have checked my settings and they seem to be correct.

Let's see if we can get you back into your email, @Cpalmer.

Have you tried troubleshooting your email?

We recommend that you clear your cache and cookies, and make sure that everything is up to date. You may also need to use OAuth or a secure mail key in order for the email to work properly.

Let us know if this helps.

I have the same problem problem on my iPhone, and have spent 2 plus hours with tech support today.  They have escalated the issue, but still no resolution.  When trying to login it says that my email address is NOT linked to my access ID.  Well it is....  I should mention that this is across all apps on my iPhone.  iPhone mail, Yahoo mail and Outlook.  This is an legacy sbcglobal.net email account.

I was able to fix mine by creating a secure email key.  Go to Support/At&T Mail/Setup & troubleshooting/setup/create a secure mail key.  Worked like a charm!

Same here. All of sudden Apple OS/Mail app cannot get one of my email accounts online. It's happened before, too, and is pretty annoying. I have a number of sbcglobal email addresses and it is usually only one or two of them that don't work. Sometimes deleting the account altogether on the Mac and adding it again works, but not always. There is something strange about the Mac Mail <--- Sbcglobal <--- Yahoo <--- ATT email account functionality. I think it is a problem with the mail app trying to connect to the imap.mail.att.net host - and therefore an ATT problem. And the fact that it works one day but not the next would also indicate something changes at ATT, not with the computer mail program.

Had same problem with Mac Mail. Out of the blue, could not receive or send. Got error on User name and Password. Took 2 mo. Called Apple, Yahoo and sbc. None had a solution. Thanks to this forum, I set up a security code for only Mac Mail. So on Yahoo mail, I use my normal password. On Mac Mail have a new 16 letter security key code password.  That was it.

My question is how come Apple or Yahoo did not know to use the security code. I've spent hours.

Anyway thanks to Kendahlm for his post. It now works.
