No access to older emails (more than 6 months old) on mac mail program

Hello,

I am running El Capitan on an older MAC PRO (2010).  Recently, in my inbox and sent folders, I am only able to access messages from the last 6 months.  On the AT&T mail server, in a browser, I can search all of my emails going back many years and for some reason I can no longer do that through the mac mail app, either on my Iphone or MAC PRO.  I have tried all of the solutions recommended online, from rebuilding the In and Sent mailboxes in the mail app on my MAC PRO, to deleting the files in the mail folder and having mail rebuild them when i open it.  It still won't show any older emails.    Again, I'v reset the setting in Mac mail preferences as suggested online, but to no avail.

On my inbox in Mac mail, the Inbox tops out at 10,000 messages.

It makes it very difficult for me to do any work!

I'm wondering if you can help me figure out why this is or if there's a setting that I need to change.

Thanks!

Dave

Here to help point you in the right direction for your email concerns, @Wilderstyle.

Since the root of your problem seems to stem from the email client you're using and not the email itself, your best best would be to reach out to the developers of your email client for further support.

Something you can try as a fix would be to create a secure mail key, however if that doesn't work then your best bet would be to either reach out to the email client developers or to try using a different email client.

Please let us know if you need any further assistance, and thanks for reaching out on the AT&T Community Forums.

I am trying to look at messages in my inbox from several years ago. I can only see 2021 and 2022. I am using my att.net. How can I access the older mail?

Thank you.

We're happy to help with recovering your old emails, @FOR__796.

We have some general information on how to restore missing emails. If you are using outlook:

  1. Open the folder menu tab.
  2. Click on new search folder.
  3. In the search folder, hit old email in the organizing mail section.
  4. Click choose and select the needed time period.

If this does not help, let us know:

  1. Are you using an email app or webmail?
  2. If you are using an email app, what app is it?(To provide more personalized steps).

Let us know if this helps and we look forward to your response.

I don't see a "folder menu tab." Where is this?

Thanks.

Hi, FOR__796.

The recovery option is only good for retrieving emails from the past 7 days, so you wouldn't be able to see the emails using that option.

Emails don't stay on the Yahoo/AT&T mail server indefinitely, so it's likely that they've been deleted. However, we suggest that you test this by signing in to your email on a 3rd party client such as Outlook or Apple Mail to see if the emails appear. If so, we can troubleshoot to see if we can recover the emails for you on Currently.com. If not, then they're no longer on the server.

Give that a try and let us know how it went.

Hi @Wilderstyle , were you able to solve the 10000 message issue?  I am having the same exact problem.  Mac Mail downloads 10000 messages, then stops.  And it's the most recent 10000.  If I delete several hundred, it will download some older mail, always stopping at 10000.
